From BlueGirl:

New York's "Black Beetle" will be opening for Morrissey at Roseland on Feb. 25th!!! Jeff Buckley's mom posted this info to the iMusic bulletin board...

Black Beetle are: Michael Tighe, Parker Kindred, Joan Wasser, and Oren Bloedow. Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred were in Jeff Buckley's band.

From dowatever:

The band Phantom Planet will be the opening act for the shows at UCI and Universal. The band found out yesterday.

And from Dan:

L.A./Irvine opening act is Phantom Planet. The drummer is "Max" from the movie "Rushmore". I actually knew them when I lived in L.A.... they are good.

Oh yeah I forgot. Phantom Planets singer is the guy with the spikey black hair who was featured in the Gap ads. The Depeche Mode and Mello Yellow ones:) Everyone In Leather??

I am curious, as anyone heard this band before? If so would you be so kind to describe their sound? Maybe in comparison to another band?

Thanks..

Phantom Planet had a rockin' gig at the Pit on "90210" a few weeks ago. I picked up their CD last year, just so I could have Jason sign it. I find myself more interested in the cute singer boy from the Gap ads, but that's just me. The music's not bad at all. Oh, they like to back out of gigs, and have been replaced by the horrid Owsley. You should all hope upon hope that you don't have to see Owsley in LA.

Phantom Planet will be great! Jason, Darren,
Alex, Jacques and Sam are all terrific musicians.
Morrissey did not make a mistake in choosing them.
Epic just signed them on a few weeks ago, so go
figure --- they are going to be SO BIG! Check out
their site: "http://www.phantomplanet.com" to find
out more about them.

Phantom Chords? Damn, you're a person after my own heart -- and yes, that would have made for a double-bill dream, Dave V. and his ways mixed with Moz madness...

Oh, man, the Phantom Chords are so cool! It's Dave Vanian on vocals-the singer from The Damned (you know, the group Spike played with)-and they've got this awesome gothic rockabilly sound. I love Dave Vanian! "God Bless Gene Vincent!"

Phantom Planet do a great cover of Somebody's Baby (from the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High) on the CD "IN THEIR EYES: '90s Teen Bands Vs. '80s Teen Movies"). Cool CD.

BLACK BEETLE -opening for Morrissey/Roseland-NYC:
description from Aquarian Weekley:

"Serene rock educated heavily in the craft of jazz, this amalgam of New York City veterans staged a surreal (or, as guitarist Michael Tighe may claim, a "So Real") show among the red velvet of the cabaret stage.

Comprised of members of defunct projects like Jeff Buckley and the Dambuilders, and current bands Those Bastard Souls, Elysian Fields, and Grand Mal...Their recorded music is addictive, and their live performance is both entertainment and inspiring in the same breath."
