First with the link to the nme.com article is Sandy. Excerpt:

Shaun Ryder, Movie Star!

SHAUN RYDER, HAPPY MONDAYS singer ROWETTA former STONE ROSES guitarist AZIZ IBRAHIM and ex-SMITHS ANDY ROURKE and MIKE JOYCE are set to star in a new film titled 'SOCIAL SOUP'.

The film script tells the tale of a group of Manchester ne-er do wells and was conceived by an unknown female write from the city.

All involved in the project are still reading scripts for the parts, but it's believed that Aziz - now frontman in his own band - will play a gangland drugs boss.

If I remember correctly, Joyce had a cameo role as a street cleaner, cleaning away some "Smiths" graffiti under the iron bridge in that short film, Unloveable at:

. . . although now I have a reasonably fast internet link, tragically, this film has gone.

Nobody downloaded and saved it, did they?

So pathetic that Andy and Mike are getting on with their lives (for the better) and yet most of the people on this @#!!!ing site still see fit to slag them. Maybe it's time Morrissey fans did the decent thing. F.O.A.D.

it's so pitiful and deploring to see people constantly attack Mike and Andy. THE SMITHS would not exist if it were not for Mike and Andy, well- more so for Andy then Mike's drumming abilities but, anyway they deserve the respect. Afterall, the band would sound really so strange with no bass and drum accompanying Marr's melodic noise and Morrissey's bastardly croon.

Oh surrender your hate you bloody hooligans...you're just jealous that they were in the smiths and you were not.

Oh come on! Mike and Andy were just as talented as any other musician in Manchester at the time. If it came to a crunch they would've been easily replaced. There are many great bass players and drummers doing the pub circuit. They should be greatful that Johnny saw it fit to recruit them.

look here people. if andy was not in the smiths they would have only been half as good. ...listen to the baseline in unloveable......
and why do you need to slag them off? is it better to continue on the same path or to try a new one?

I couldn't agree more with Mike ferrier.
Anyone could have filled their shoes, and in some cases it would have better that they had. You people are so quick to stand up for the also-rans.How terribly fair minded of you all. hah.

Now before I say anything I just want to say that I know nothing about the drums, but I can school all you people on string instruments, including the BASS. It takes a lot of good practice to come up with the bass lines that Andy came up with, he has his own style that I have never heard before and I challenge anyone, including Mike Ferry and Jungfiend, to find any bass player like him that came before him and The Smiths. It takes talent and practice to not simply follow the guitar when playing bass. Listen to any Smith's song, Andy is doing his own thing! I doubt that every bassist and drummer played just like Andy and Mike in Manchester in the early eighties.

Quote from anything released by The Smiths,
'Words by Morrissey
Music by Johnny Marr'
The music belongs to Johnny. It was all set up for Andy and Mike to fill in, which they did quite well no doubting that. Yes they were good musicians and yes 'unloveable', 'Queen Is Dead' and 'Barbarism' have all got great bass lines, but I know people and have played with people who can perform those songs quite comfortably. I'm sure if a @#!!!kicker like myself can find such people then surely Johnny could as well. All is very often not like it seems, remember that!

Have my veiws dragged you down to such infantile gestures? Good, now choke on them!
Maybe you just are not musical. Please don't bore me with info on those lovely Piano certficates you have on your wall. But still, feel free to surpass your ignorance if you may.

Michael Ferry is right again.
If those two clowns were so bloody brilliant, why then have they wallowed in mediocrity and failure ever since they left the smiths?
Session musicians would have done just as well, and in retrospect cost a lot less.

p.s. Yes he does look a lot like Gilligan.

Why don't you people get it? Mike & Andy were way important to The Smiths. What if Morrissey and Johnny picked some other guys that sound just like everyone else, God forbid, they definitely wouldn't sound the same, and what if those random musicians were @#!!!S, there would definitely some be conflict probably resulting in the bands early break up. Studio musicians aren't any better either, they all sound the same, if you've ever listened to a solo artist who doesn't have a band and only uses studio musicians, you would notice that all their songs sound the same. I'm only trying to give Andy & Mike the credit they deserve.

'What if ....What if....What if....'. We are getting hypothetical here aren't we. Here's a 'what if'.
What if Johnny Marr had said 'sod off Mike' at the audition and got Curley Watts in instead of Andy?
Not only would he be a lot richer but Reg Holdsworth would probably still be in Coronation Street.
What if Johnny Marr had called on Shawn Ryder instead of Morrissey? Well we wouldn't be having this delightful argument would we?

"What if JM had called on Shawn(sic)Ryder?"

No deviousness, No thievin' off your mates, No court case, No whinging that everybody hates you, when in fact MOST people don't give a @#!!!, No bobbins solo career relying on your past success.....Actually, It sounds alright doesn't it?

Yeaahahhh! I agree with Mikey Ferris-wheel. Those two could have easily been replaced by session musicians, which would have made things much better. While we were at it, they could have had Mozzer replaced by a session singer. Nothing would have changed, would it?
And why do you call yourself jungfield? Seem bitter and twisted to me......

No nothing would have changed, apart from the being really good bit. Shawn Ryder? You think Moz was 'devious'? Ryder has been on the dock more times than the court cleaning lady!!!

I agree with Crimson. But I still never rated the man and his lack of talent deserves a mis-spelt name.

Well, if Shaun was the singer, then I guess Andy wouldn't have been kicked out.
Still, Shaun is the antithesis of the "tight-arse" Morrissey model. Any money made gets spent somehow.
