Do these guys just do Smiths and Morrissey covers? Do they try to sing like Morrissey? Do they have any original material? Are they any good or are they just some novelty act? Has anyone heard any music from that new group The Vauxhall Station Gang? Or how about Bengali in Platforms? Maybe they haven't gotten much exposure yet, but they are really big in Roseau and International Falls, MN.

Yes, most tribute bands perform strictly covers. While we're all in other bands which play originals, the Lads are a cover band, which is all we ever intend to be, because its fun.Whether or not we're any good, you can do a search on this site and read the kind things people have said about us in the past. Thanks for your interest!

Yes! The Salford Lads are amazing, and so much fun! I've seen them three times, and each show has been more and more packed. They aren't an exact replica, since they have a lot more energy than the Smiths ever did. I highly recommend this band to everyone! The singer is a doll! As is the bass player :)

I saw the Lads for the first time last month or so at Tis Was. They played a lot of Smiths tunes (2 sets); 3 or 4 Moz songs. The band looks like the current band in terms of garb and stage manner. I really enjoyed the evening . . . it was very nostalgic and it was great hearing Smiths songs live . . . and so many of them. The crowd was great; the place was packed. Lots of energy. Lots of dancing and britpop tunes before, between and after sets. The band has tons of energy; the lead singer gives it his all. The music isn't as polished as Sweet and Tender . . . both vocalists are slightly off (but hey . . . there is only one Morrissey). The experience is well worth it . . . so much so that I will attend this weekend. I really think they put on a great effort . . . a lot of hard work. The mix of types of songs is excellent. Only two criticisms: (i) the music is so loud that it overwhelms the vocalist at times; and (ii) you can't play every Smiths song in under 2:30 or as fast as William . . . . But I give them a lot of credit . . . the guitarists have to match up with Marr and that is rough. The world is a much greater place with the Lads than it would be without them.

Does anyone know a British based Smiths/Morrissey tribute band? (And please don't say 'Gene').

Wow! This was a great show, I'm was really pleasantly surprised - I wasn't expecting much from a band playing covers. These guys turned in a really great performance, whoever made the comment about energy was 100% right. Their Moz was superb, he's like the 1983 version! The music was so good, they're really great musicians, especially the bass and drums. My only complaint was with the lead guitarist. He seems to get ahead of himself too much, and i think he could have used a bit more practice. Although, playing Johnny Marr can't be easy.... Go see this band!!!

In response to Nick Seriously...I was at that same show you were at (Tiswas in NYC), and I thought the "Lads" were great. I was so psyched about them after, that I came on this board to write a review about them. The band is great. Of course they are not the SMITHS! The lead singer was very coy as well....There was a joke about a t-shirt ( and not letting MOZ see it) they were promoting...I won't go in to it here, but I thought it was priceless. Sorry guys , you had to be there. It is a shame that due to a prior engagement, I couldn't see them this past weekend, but there is always next time. I STRONGLY suggest people go see them. I took a date with me, who only knew "How Soon Is Now?", and she was really impressed by the "Lads". C'mon people!!! THEYRE GREAT!!!!
