I'd pay $100 for front row if I could! But struggling to the front is part of the fun.

the NY dates have cost me about $88 so far. It is well worth it - 1 show as you know is General Admission, and I have row BB for the Beacon (2nd row). I can't fault that.

There is no limit to what I would pay, but the bad thing about this poll is the fact that Morrissey might read it and get wise to charging ridiculous prices for tickets i.e.$55 for Universal or $43.50 for Vegas...I mean he's great live and well worth the money, but it's very hard on the wallet.

Sandy Gringo - Fri, Feb 11, 2000 at 09:10:05 (PST) | #3

The reason that the prices are much higher has to be the fact that the rental of the place is much higher. In fact someone was mentioning a few months bach how much it cost to "rent" the Santa Barbara gig, pay all the band members and then finally come up with how much he was actually making. Kind of sad, but then again that's why he is touring so much. I hope it's not because he needs the money.

I'm driving over 7 hours and spending 42,50$ for the admission, about 90$ for gas and a motel should cost me 45$ or so...that's almost 200$, canadian of course. which is what? 25 US$...heheh

Until he comes out with new material, I'm not spending another dime to see him in concert. I've seen him three times on the 1999 tour, which I think is more than enough to prove I'm a fan. Am I asking too much to ask him to return the favor by touring when he has new material? It would also make a difference if the set lists would vary from venue to venue, but they don't. Almost identical each time I saw him. So, there... Of course, I still love him. So, there...

Adrian:
I agree with your comments, about rental and fees and what not, but Morrissey does not have to be charging this much, nor does the venue...OASIS tix(i hate this band by the way) went on sale the day before Morrissey Tix, and they were only $36 after service charge at the same venue. Somebody is getting raped and it's the fans, and like the song goes "Wide to..." He needs the money, he even stated how he needed to raise some funds after the court case. I don't mind paying though, I'm not just some blind fan, it's just that all the years of happiness and emotional saving he's done for me it's worth it. It's cheaper than seeing a shrink!

What's the point about how much you would spent?
How about the effort that has to be done to even get to the venue at all? If you live in a big city it's easy to see artists perform. if you live in a small town it's hell.

All of these Morrissey concerts are costing a pretty penny. But watching moz sing the songs live, the same songs that have saved your life, the songs that made you cry... in person is cleary worth the $30-$50.

i work for sabre, so i can fly round-trip to concert locales for under $20.00.

when you rack up airfare, auto rental, hotel
(because i need my sleep), and ticket price,
i pay about $150.00 plus just to catch a show.

but then i am horribly alone and need something
to do with my weekends.....

i'd blow $150.00 on booze, anti-depressants, and junk food easy but morrissey keeps me slim,
tan, and adds luster and shine to my eyes and coat....

and no, this is not an add for alpo....

in the past 4 months i've attended 2 shows and i just bought tickets for the UA in l.a show, buying mechandise is a must, & gas money to get to the shows have all added up to about 500 bucks. and if the guadalajara show goes through i'll be selling fruit on the side of the freeway to get my money for tickets. but in the end it's worth it.

I spent $280 to see him in L.A. This includes airfare though. Then he goes and schedules shows here in Portland and Seattle. I wasn't upset though, cause I got to see him a couple more times.

morons . . . every penny above what it costs him is just exploiting us. i paid $41 for his last show here in seattle, but am upset because other bands charge a lot less, even those that travel the world to get here, have a more elaborate set, and more band members.

I have seen him 9 times on this tour going on 11,
with the upcoming LA/Irvine shows. This doesn't
include the vegas show that he canceled in which
I lost $500 on that trip alone for airfare and hotel fees. All together I would say I have spent
close to a couple thousand to see him on this tour. I don't know why I keep going to his shows
when he doesn't change dick in his setlist. I
just keep going because I am hoping he will play
something cool like The Loop, or Sing Your Life,
or mabey even Disappointed. There was that really
cool time on the Maladjusted tour when he surprised us all in claremont and played The Queen
Is Dead. It really upsets me that he chose to
drop The Edges Are No Longer Parallel which was
performed amazingly at the Arizona show, but he
chose to keep the boring song "Lost". And I am
sooooooooooo sick of hearing "Now My Heart Is Full", "Speedway", "Boy Racer", and "Reader Meet
Author". Vauxhall is not that great live. Now
My Heart Is Full starts off sounding like R.E.M.'s
"Radio Song"

Michael:

You say that any money Moz charges us above his personal cost for the show is exploitative - do you expect him to tour for a year and not make any money? Get real. At the end of the day, he is in the music business and he has to make money somehow. People go to see him, not because they are forced to, but because they choose to. There is a difference.

I spent $42 USD for the Seattle show which is about $63 Canadian dollars...I then flew to Vancouver and then drove to Seattle...the whole shebang cost me about $300 Canadian...not including the sexy new jacket I bought...anyways, $40 bux American to see Morrissey is not that much. He is a legend and has been around for almost 18 years...Compare $42 to; $95 for the Eagles or 87.50 for Mariah Careh or 97.50(canadian) for @#!!!ING RICKY MARTIN!

I saw him in Santa Barbara, Hollywood, Coachella, and Thursday night in Chicago. Santa Barbara was about $350 including a hotel, tickets, meals, drinks, etc. for my wife and me. I thought it was money well spent, since it was only day 2 of the tour.

Fearing that he was not coming back to LA for a while I sneaked my way out to Chicago and ended up spending $300+ ($80 for cab fare to and from the show - $110 for two tickets one being a PIT ticket, etc) for me alone.

Though the setlist was identical to the previous shows I've seen, he reached out and shook my hand in Chicago! Yes it was worth every penny!

Look I'd pay anything for Mozza to come DownUnder for a tour. We have been deprived for too long. Mozza needs to recognise his fans here in Australia who continue to buy his records and have supported him for all these years.

Back in October I bought two pairs of tickets (one for Coachella and one for Vegas) and hopped on a plane to see him. At the end of the day, and about 1200$ later including rental car and hotel I didn't see him (Vegas show was cancelled and Coachella was not attended due to the ineptitude of my host.) At the end of the day, after having 700$ stolen from me, being sexually abused and having to stay with someone who behaved as an @#!!! it was worth it because of the possibility of seeing him. Of course, this is coming from someone who just paid 220$ for a pair of tickets to see the first show in DC when she already has tickets for the second show, Boston, and Toronto. It takes all kinds.....

okay, i like morrissey, as many do, however, "the possibility of seeing him..." that's borderline danger, and morrissey wouldn't want his fans to be in danger, would he?

he is a good show, but how much can we put up with? things are reasonable now, but what about in 5 or 10 more years?

I would pay more than 50 dollars if he played on stage at least 90 minutes, as any other artist do.
I've been at many concerts in my life, I love Morrissey and I was very disappointed when I went to my first Moz's concert:it was the shortest I've ever seen: the one I had been expecting more!

Truth is i'd probably spend anything required but...

and just today i won another pair from a local free magazine !!! ( i think someone posted the add for the contest here a little while ago )
Anyway, i just thought i'd brag a little!

I just think it's a shame that I would be willing to spend so much money just to be in the same building as Moz, knowing that I would be breathing the same air as he, but he can't even find the time to make an appearance anywhere near me to grab my cash and fart in my atmoshpere. The Atlanta show was where I was going, but alas, another lonely night listening to Sigue Sigue Sputnik and eating cheese spread on Triskets seems to be in order...

Tix for the Chicago Metro show are $30, though for a show at a venue this small, with no seats--where its rather easy to make one's way to the very front of the stage--they could have charged double that and it would've sold out just as soon.

Don't we count?

P.S I paid Ģ17 to go and see him. Daylight bloody robbery! For that price I should have been able to spend the night in his hotel room, never mind a sodding club.

I hate to kick you in the pants (Chicago people), but I walked up to the Metro and had no problem getting tickets without a wait. I purchased extra tickets to "help out" those that couldn't make it to the Metro, and I couldn't unload them that night. I ended up with face value for them, and I know that some of the scalpers were selling them at $20!!??!?! (on a $30 face)
None the less, I'd have paid twice that to see him (and the Metro performance made up for his last Chicago disappointment).

life is such a waste when one sits around counting the pennies in his pocket.. with $50 dollars.. you can either put it in your life savings till your teeth falls out from old age.. or you can spend it on a prostitute to ease your sexual tensions.. considering all the choices that i have on that amount of money alone.. i can't think of anything else that is worth spending but to spend it on a morrissey concert.. if you think that 50 dollars for a morrissey concert is a wreck to your life.. then you have a choice of not going.. and that 50 bucks of yours will be spent on something else that you think will add a story to your life..

honestly, i'm spending 40 bucks to see him and probably another 60 to get massively overpriced merchandise. it really is ridiculous.

i even feel guilty about spending money i really don't even have...
("and the money it wasn't even mine..")

my question is this, and it's probably a moot question, why do we spend so much money on one man when there are so many other things to spend our money on? Especially when sending in that 100 dollars to a local charity would help a battered women's shelter or homeless children's foundations...

I keep asking myself why I do this...or why people spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars flying place to place to see him... i do it because i love his music...i do it because i need to, just for one night, to be around him....

but i also ask myself this, depressing myself further:
would he fly town to town to see _you_?

and the answer is probably a resolute no.

I hope that Morrissey will come and visit me after the touring is over. None of us can say if he would or wouldn't enjoy visiting with a fan or two in the comfort of their home.

And as for those who hate Morrissey WHY ARE YOU HERE? In case you didn't notice the sign on the door says Morrissey, those of us here love him and the last thing we care for are people like you taking away from that love.

Travel is always more expensive than tickets. You can whine and whine and whine about ticket costs, but compared to travel costs tickets are cheap. Unless of cource you live in California (jab).

Morrissey I love you, just as I love Boz and Alain (especially Alain) and Spike...I wish you all well in S. America!

GUILLOTINE GIRL....

i hope i can enlighten you on capitalism and
how it works.... you see, i spend MY money
that I EARN on goods/services/etc that either
benefit or please me.
by spending, i support the industries/services
that PROVIDE their employees with jobs and
paychecks, which in turn they spend on goods/services that give others paychecks to spend.
it's a wonderful process that supplies billions
of people w/ jobs and money.
now, i suppose you want me lament on social ills
caused by capitalism, but then you'd rather have
us all enslaved by "need".
never in human history have we acheived nirvana. i'm sorry but life is unfair and we will always the poor, the battered, and the maimed. the best
alternative they have is to recognize their own
self-worth and participate in life.
remember, charity and welfare is slavery my dear,
because when you expect/demand others to support
you; beggars can't be choosers. not to say that
people don't need help in certain circumstances,
but that does not give anyone the right to enslave
me to their "need".
and how do you know that morrissey fans don't
donate money and time? why be a hypocrite and
play a guilt trip on the rest of us when you
don't deny yourself the luxury of seeing morrissey?
i'll spend my money any damn way i choose
and i don't need ANYONE giving me a guilt trip.
and i'm sure the individuals that morrissey
employs to support his tour "need" the money...
the employees who work for the airlines "need"
their paychecks...the people who work at motel 6 and hertz rent-a-car "need" their paychecks...
and i am happy to oblige when i travel to see
morrissey.
got it?

(referring to msg#18, i know this is a long way down.)
Michael:
to say the least I'm truly disappointed.
Moz doesn't have a record company to foot the bill like most bands that "tour the world to get here" do.
Besides, Moz can charge whatever he wants. If it weren't for those songs that saved my life, i'd have been lying in a bathtub with both wrists slashed (or something equally gruesome) years ago.

Talk about a mind consumed with brass (money).
