New Discussion Board, Registry format
Posted on Sat, Jan 1 2000 at 12:23 p.m. PST
by David T. <david@morrissey-solo.com>
A couple changes to the site:
  • Discussion forums - new format

    - I'm switching to the Ultimate Bulletin Board format which is more widely used has some more features than the previous format. Sorry for the abrupt change.

    - The image by Julie Niven used in the forums was used on the old registry page. As usual, original art for the site is always welcome.

  • Registry - new format

    - With the new Discussion board format is a profiling system which I'll use for the registry, since it's very similar to the format I had before, and can be updated much more easily. There are entries for location and also interests -- I suggest registering your profile soon.

  • Chat room - stays the same

You have just destroyed the very best message board anywhere on the internet. I have enjoyed reading it for some time now, but this move has made it impersonal and mechanical. I will continue reading your main page, but the message boards are dead as far as I am concerned.

The new discussion boards are *horrendous*!
Maybe the new style *has* got more features, but it` ug-ly!
Can`t you have a vote to see which format people prefer?

This new message board really sucks!!!!! I can tell you that I won't be checking the message boards nearly as often as I used to. Please change it back to the old format!!!!!!

blah blah blah

I hope David decides to bring the old format back. I'm sure most people here are in agreement. The new format is really terrible. I know I won't be using the message boards much anymore. I agree with Paul. There should be a poll to see what should be done with the message boards.

YUCK!!!!!

i actually think the new format on the discussion boards will eventually be better, once everyone is used to them..they will prevent people from posting stupid messages, and posting under a million differnent names..im sure after a few weeks, everyone will be used to it.

David, please reconsider the previous version of the message board. This new one, though replete with additional options, lacks the ease of flow and personable interaction that the previous one had. This change may eventually bring about efficiency but it has taken something which I among others believe to be its saving grace: its spirit.

Just terrible. Another web site i visit (professionalsportscar.com) just changed to this same kind of board. Everyone hates it there too.
I guess even this web site must fall prey to convenience and functionality, over originality.
I will miss the old board.

How could something so right go so wrong? This is a sad sad day.

Hi David. I'd just like to say that although the new messageboard might be more efficient, or easier for you (somehow - I don't know), I honestly feel that the old board was muchmuch better and more personable. I honestly thought that it was the best around.

It does seem that there is a general consensus on this matter, but I know that this is your website so I hope you find it in yourself to reconsider switching back to the old style.

That's it. I thought I'd throw in my two cents here, rather than in your personal inbox. Bye.

;-)

Dear David:

As always, I am very thankful that you do a superb job of running Morrissey-solo.com

However, I have to say that I strongly dislike the new format of the discussion boards. Please bring back the previous format, except include the ISDNs for each post on all the discussion boards, not just for the posts on the marketplace board.

Best
Mel

This new format is terrible!! Take it away, and return to the old method. In the name of progress you have take a step toward the rear. The old format may have had its problems, but this one is indifferent and impersonal.

David, you know you´re my heroe, but HOnestly The new look of the discussion board looks HORRIBLE, I agree with all, Please reconsider it. It doesn´t look like Morrissey-solo... it´s not your site..., it doesn´t match with the beautiful idea and cool artistic place this one is.
It just remind me that owful and stupid "message board" at DM official site, where evryone is under 20.
It Looks so unpersonal,i miss the old format, the absoluetly gorgeous and unique sepia images...
I know we had some problems there with some people BUt, what about the ones who are honest and sensitive and that really misses the old style? like us? Please David change it. make a poll and you´ll see, I do not want to immigrate too.

Make it go away. I don't like it. You "fixed" something that wasn't broken.

David, I guess you should change it back. They like their same old Morrissey, and they like the well worn paths to their favorite hangouts.

I find the format easy to use, but it's not much fun it nobody will go in and use it.

p.s.

why on earth did i ever become so unlucky as to become addicted to this internet stuff? i was sad when I registered for that newsgroup and noticed that my list of interests has really shrunk over the last couple of years.

Geez, does anyone like UBB? I like it a lot.
I find the old one rather messy and cluttered. Oh well.

Don't feel bad David, not everyone hates the attempt at the UBB.
