If you combine what hasn't been released on another Reprise compilation, you will have about 12 songs.

i was kind of dissapointed with the first "best of morrissey" cd... i hope this one has the moz tunes that the REAL FANS can enjoy..like "break up the family" and "black eyed susan" not just those popular morrissey songs that they play on STAR.... like suedehead. i hope this ones a good one-mike-

I have never really liked Black-eyed Susan that much. I find the break in the middle quite strange, and this "born again atheist"-phrase works better in Nobody loves us (Morrissey recycles his lyrics...). But the "remember, we were the first" is cool, though. Ooops, does this mean that I am no REAL fan??

I really do hope that "Reader Meet Author," and "Boy Racer" are in the "Best Of Morrissey 2". I personally think that "Southpaw Grammar," is one of Morrissey's best albums ever recorded! Another, great Moz tune that I would included, would be "Break Up The Family".

AUGH!!! i think that song, along with much of kill uncle and the song "billy budd" should be...ahem...respectfully put aside. comparatively speaking, it's better than any music being put out by artists today, however, in comparison to some of his other music, it's...well...not my favorite.

But the basic question really is if it is good to make a 'connoisseur's choice' collection or not. I think it would be nice with such a collection, since Suedehead certainly wasn't one, but financially it might be unsound. If it is to become such a collection, I would throw in tunes like Used to Be a Sweet Boy, Sing your life, Lost, I'll never learn, and why not the studio version of Jack the Ripper? Maybe Interesting Drug and Have-a-Go-Merchant? I think Billy Budd is a good song, but it shouldn't be right after Springheeled Jim. They are too similar (compared to the rest of the album).

Its this simple..Reprise cannot release yet another compilation without giving the fans something for their money. And I'm not talking about "Jack The Ripper" live in '92! I'm talking about unreleased tracks. Maybe two or three..and how about some live tracks from this past tour? I'm sure reprise can aquire some recordings from camp Morrissey of a nice live version of "Hairdresser" or "Lost". Let Reprise know that they won't get your money unless they provide the fans with something special!

How about they just re-release every album he already has out, then all you guys would be happy. That way you could buy all the songs you love, that you already have, all over again.Wouldn't it be fun to have a "Best Of" of stuff that is not easily available. Hell, I would prefer a bunch of songs with Moz covering a bunch of other artists over a compilation CD. Moz doing some Bowie, or James, or Love Spit Love, or how about Moz doing some Joy Division, anyone; hell, Moz covering Britiny Spears or some carbon copy Boy Band would be more interesting than this "Paint a Vulgar Picture" attitude of these comp CD's. Moz (with the Smiths inclusively) has had more compilation CD's out than most artist ever produce original CD's. Just say NO to comp CD's. (Besides, isn't it easier for you to make up your own lineup of your favorites than it is for a company to lay out the lineup for you?)

Wasn't "My Early Burglary Years" released by Reprise? Therefore, I assume that no songs that were on that album will be on a future "best of", so soon after it came out.Late Night, Maudlin Street definitely belongs on any Moz best of, it's almost as good as Paint a Vulgar Picture (lots of lyrics, repetetive music) Maladjusted (the song, not the album or email list) is in that vein too.

After sending a letter to Jack at Reprise asking why Reprise didn't settle their differences with Morrissey and help him get his new album released, I got this response:"We have no differences whatsoever." This seems to suggest that any differences between them are on Morrissey's side...or that this guy is talking out of his arse. ::shrug::

You also have to keep in mind that anyting off of "Maladjusted" including all b-sides from the album belong to Mercury, and NOT Reprise. Reprise would have to license them from Mercury, and I doubt they would be willing to spend any money on the album, let alone care. And please let Reprise know that you won't be suckered in to another re-hash of songs you already own!

Any Moz LP is a pretty good idea. But it needs to be eclectic: a few of the best singles with lots of his finer b-sides and LP tracks. Something like:I Know Very Well How I Got My Name Hairdresser On Fire Suedehead Everyday Is Like Sunday Late Night, Maudlin Street Sister I'm A Poet Will Never Marry (original version) The Last of the Famous International Playboys November Spawned A Monster I've Changed My Plea To Guilty (US) My Love Life The National Front Disco Seasick Yet Still Docked I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday Tomorrow Jack The Ripper (studio) Now My Heart Is Full Billy Budd Hold Onto Your Friends Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself? Speedway I'd Love To Sunny Nobody Loves Us The Boy Racer Trouble Loves Me Maladjusted Alma Matter The Edges Are No Longer Parallel Lost Also, to make it at all worthwhile, there MUST be a bonus rarities CD, including the real unreleased stuff. Can't see it happening though...

Grrr, it's all been done before, best of, most of...re-issue, re-package, etc. etc., etc. The only people who buy Moz albums anymore are fans....he's by no means a "flavor of the month" type....so for the love of God put some new material on it. The one thing guaranteed to get all of our money would be something NEW. I don't ask for much, a single, an enhanced video, some live songs...hell how about a live album from the last tour?...I'd buy an album with live Smiths and Moz songs side by side with the roar of a wild crowd. Do the people who market this stuff ever listen to his lyrics, do they relaize they've completely conformed to all negative stereotypes about record companies?

One half-line from "My Love Life" springs to mind, and that is "...come on and do something new..."The ratio of compilations against new releases is becoming embarrasing. The video compilation I welcome...some live material from the last tour would be nice too...but with the Singles Box Set, recent Viva Hate re-release, Suedehead, My Early Burglary Years, World Of Morrissey, not to mention the Smiths Singles compilation...well, it's all getting a bit silly.

A BEST Of would be quite nice if it's done right. Making it a two-disc set is a good idea. Like what Joni Mitchell did with her "Hits" and "Misses" compilations. Have one disc be pretty much the singles and most known songs, for those people out there who want to dip their toes into the world of Moz for the first time. Then have a second disc of overlooked, superior album tracks, a stand-out b-sides, and perhaps a rarity or two. Maybe let Morrissey handpick them. Making aBest Of for Morrissey is difficult because you could make 5 volumes of Best Of Morrissey and still leave some great stuff out. = ) But I feel very strongly that "Reader Meet Author" was a great song that didnb't get much attention. And "Late Night, Maudlin Street" belongs on there. If you go just with the singles, you'll not have anything respresenting Morrissey longer, wordier songs that he does so well. "Late Night" is my fave of these. Many of the tracks are, of course, no-brainers. You gotta have the obvious stuff like "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get," and "Suedehead." But to make it more interesting, I'd suggest pulling a track off the excellent "Morrissey at KROQ" EP, and for a rarity including the studio version of "Jack the Ripper." I think an accurate Best Of would bypass most of "Kill Uncle," opting for "Morrissey at KROQ's" "Sing Your Life." The only song I'd include from "Kill Uncle is "(I'm) The End Of tHe Family Line." From the "Bona Drag" period, the best seems to be "Last of the Famous..." and "Interesting Drug." If space permits, perhaps "Michael's Bones," Picadilly Palare," "Disappointed." From "Viva Hate," what I've already mentioned plus "Hairdresser on Fire" (the represent Morrissey at his funniest and most playful). From "Southpaw Grammar," what I've mentioned plus "The Boy Racer." If space permits, the song "Southpaw" is gorgeous. From "Your Arsenal," "We'll Let You Know" (it's Moz's fave!) and "You're the One For Me, Fatty." Although most of that album could be used! The first four tracks of Arsenal go very well together. "Maladjusted"/Mercury stuff I assume is not eligible. From My Early Burglary Years, "Nobody Loves Us," perhaps "A Swallow On My Neck." From "Vauxhall," in addition to what I mentioned, also "Speedway" is a must, and consider "Spring-Heeled Jim" and "Billy Budd." A BEST OF should probably have at least one live song. Um....aw, hell, just do a box set!! = )

Regardless of what we all would like to see on the next "Best of ..." album, I believe that it's still going to be comprised of all the typical songs that are played on the radio such as "Suedehead," "Tomorrow," "Everyday Is Like Sunday," "November Spawned A Monster" etc... because "Best of ..." albums are in typical fashion suppose to contain the artists "hit" songs. I highly doubt that we'll see any of the other greats such as "Break Up The Family," "There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends," "I Can Have Both," or "Seasick, Yet Still Docked."

I can't believe most of you! KILL UNCLE is one of Morrissey's best albums. Don't give me any of this southpaw grammer crap! Besides, if they were going to release yet another "Best of" cd, wouldn't you want something that you couldn't get? To me these "Best of" Cds are just an excuse to reissue his songs and make more money. Oh well, I have all the rarties anyways...I could care less about the people who think southpaw grammer is the best album getting the rarities such as Jack the Ripper in studio version, because guess what it wasn't written in the southpaw grammer era! That's why it's good. The only good songs that came out of that era is Nobody loves us and You must please remember which are b-sides!

No matter what any one else might say in regards, a Morrissey "Best of..." would not, and will not be a best of without the beauty of "I Know Very Well How I Got My Name". How that song cannot be ranked amongst the best is beyond me. The other songs which the "Best of...I" ignored so unwisely were: 1)Hairdresser On Fire 2)Will Never Marry 3)Let The Right One Slip In 4)Nobody Loves Us and of course, this one shoulda' been a no brainer 5)Jack The Ripper I agree with a few of the others, such as, Break Up The Family (live),but also think Swallow On My Neck and Lost are amongst Morrissey "best" songs.

Does anyone else here think that Morrissey had great foresight to write the song Suedehead? It correlates so close to the Clinton/Lewinsky situation! Check it out:After the story broke, Clinton tries to distance himself from Monica(Why do you come here? And why do you hang around?) He tries to console her for this treatment(I'm so sorry, oh, I'm so sorry). When things get sticky he asks her(Why do you come here, when you know it makes things hard for me you go [I guess you can take liberties with that conotation]). When she persists,(Why do you telephone, and why do you leave me silly notes?). At the end of it all of course(It was a good lay, good lay...). ;>) Have fun folks! Morrissey seems to have lost that ability he once had. Perhaps he'll never be able to recapture it with new material but, i think his talent could be directed in other ways, as some people have mentioned earlier. Though Morrissey would be best if he recorded an inspirational album of duets. Even though he's not dueting with Johnny Depp, the idea of one is quite good. Just let these tunes ring in your ears before you judge. "wind beneath my wings" duet with Bette Midler "You've got a friend" duet with James Taylor "Diamonds and Pearls" with Prince "I want to be your man" with Zap & rogers "One Sweet day" with Boyz II MenHe would do well adding some vocal tracks to John Tesh's new christmas album

Can I take it that you write of off all electronic music without even bothering to listen to it?

Hi, I was just wondering why so many Morrissey fans hate the album Kill Uncle. Thanks for answering.

I'd quite like to hear Moz sing:"Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man after Midnight)" by Abba.

Bonadrag,Quite frankly, I like Kill Uncle. It is lyrically marvelous and a treat to listen to. I believe that there are many who are more in tune with the "musical" sound of Morrissey and the Smiths than the "songwriting", hence the distaste. As for me, I enjoy both which is why, again, I'll state I really enjoyed Maladjusted and Southpaw Grammar along with Kill Uncle. Not a lot of agreeance out there on that, but when the music "say's something to me about my life" as these three albums did, thats where I put my money so to speak.

Mute Witness is the best Moz song going. How about a live version of that (where the guitar fills in the piano parts live)?

We don't owe him anything, but he owes us something, doesn't he? He better know what will make us smile tonight.

Thanks Beethoven,That is how I feel. Kill Uncle was a very important album to me. I enjoyed it immensly. Along with Southpaw and maladjusted. It just seems like some people need to just enjoy the music. It is wonderful. And not be so critical. But again. everybody does have there right. I just never understood why there was so much Kill Uncle bashing. Thanks for the response.

How curious that Reprise see Morrissey (and his market value) as good enough to re-issue songs, but, alas, do not find the value high enough to allow a new record deal?I urge each and every set of eyes to pass this message to email the guy (and yes - it does seem strange that he has an AOL e-mail address) and tell him how you think. See you soon....

I didn't think Kill Uncle was very strong when it came out, but over the years (it's been 9 years, right?) it's definitely grown on me and now I love it. It's kind of an odd album, especially for those of us who grew up on the Smiths (which had a little bit of a harder edge) and it doesn't surprise me that not everyone likes it. Funny to think about, at the same time that the world was going grunge, Morrissey released his most mellow record. But how can you argue with "Found Found Found" or "There Is A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends"?

If you guys email the guy about songs, you should all ask for live concert songs. That's about the only songs left that haven't been explored and discovered (besides Beethoven was deaf). I'd love to hear Boxers, My Love Life, Satan Rejected My Soul, and Have A Go Merchant, among others live.POLL: how many of you guys have MOZ bootlegs? Which ones? I have one, Higher Education.

Not many Moz fans like the album KILL UNCLE because it sucks, just like the Smiths cover of the Twinkle song "Golden Lights" sucks as well(I still like that name, though). However, the song "Our Frank", I think is one of his best. "Driving Your GirlFriend Home" is OK. "The End of..." is OK. "Found,Found,Found" is OK, too,but everything else is real crap. I wouldn't be suprised if M would want some of these songs never to have seen the light of day. The KROC EP is great, btw.

BONADRAG. I think Kill Uncle is a GREAT album too. There are so many amazing tracks on it.... Kill Uncle is a very lyrically dense album that few can appreciate apparently.... I also highly enjoy Maladjusted! the title track is the greatest song, Alma Matters rocks, and Trouble Loves Me is one of my fave songs ever.RE: POLL, my answer is 6...they are all great!

On second thoughts - and I've had a few days to think about it now - this latest BEST OF is a very bad idea. Just thinking about a possible track-listing gives me a headache. The end result would surely please no one. We might as well all go away and make up our own personal compilations. Reprise should have the guts to give us what we really want: a rarities collection...

Ask yourself Who is the most successful British Artist to concure the US??? Who is still making top quality music at 41?? And if his musical genious wants to be celibrated once more then WHY stop it?? If it sells and makes money would you not relise it?? Well frankly MR Shankly i think ur a mixed up little kid who has a light that never goes out for MOZ

One quick thing first.. I still find it so amazingly wonderful that as a group of fans we're at least all very different... No one can ever seem to agree on Kill Uncle for instance, though my vote goes in still as it is one of his best... so many fans hate it really. Oh well. What happened to "You've Had Her?" Am I the only one who loves hearing Morrissey do that "rarararara ahhhhh" throughout the song? I still think it is one of the funnier songs he has ever done. And the Cosmic Dancer B-Side? Or the live version of Disappointed that starts out with Cosmic Dancer "I was a dancin' when I was 12... ha ha ha" and Disappointed kicks in? I think that version is really brilliant. But anyhow... another compilation is just boring. Can't we just get a DVD of the music videos we don't have yet? I know they're not all owned by the same record label... but still. I won't buy anymore repackaged songs. I'm just so very done with all this crap about re-selling the same songs. If the record companies know that idiots out there will still buy anything with morrissey's name on it, they will still produce stuff. And them asking for us to send in song "wish-lists" is probably them just testing the water to see what we will and willnot buy. (We, meaning fans or those people more interested) Don't give in, just walk away.... --EA

1.It's a little late in the game, I know, but I'd like to contribute my Best Of Wish List (quite arbitrarily reduced to 21 songs, because we have to limit ourselves somehow, don't we?) In no particular ardor: Trouble Loves Me Sing Your Life Such A Little Thing Makes Such a Big... Hairdresser on Fire Everyday is Like Sunday Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself Late Night, Maudlin Street The National Front Disco Jack the Ripper The Boy Racer Dial a Cliche Piccadilly Palare There's A Place in Hell For Me and My Friends Have a Go Merchant November Spawned a Monster Pregnant for the Last Time Tomorrow Glamorous Glue Sunny The Last of the Famous International Playboys I've Changed My Plea to Guilty Admittedly, I would love to see the album begin and end with the bookend songs here; they could even be swapped, I think--they are ideal representations, and deserve a prominent place in line. 2. Re: 'Kill Uncle' -- I think it really is a supbar work, a lackluster effort, especially considered in light of where it falls on the timeline--sandwiched among much stronger releases. 'Mute Witness' and 'Asian Rut' are criminally underrated, however. 3. As far as covers go, wouldn't 'Sentimental Journey' b/w 'My Funny Valentine' be a treat? M

i emailed the man from reprise, and i basically said that a greatest hits disk would sell because all the people here will buy it with the inclusion of any song we dont have on cd, and the general public likes "hits" disks.i also said that jack the ripper (studio) shold be included because of the radioplay it once had in its live format, and becasue i love that song. i got a package in the mail from JackMack from Reprise on saturday with the following message: "thanks for sending your suggestions for a morrissey greatest hits package- much apreciated. let me know what you think of Snake River Conspiracy's version of "how soon is now?" morrissey told me that the louder it's played. the more he loves it." while i dont love it, and i doubt that moz does, its not too bad. the music is very different in tempo and instrumentation, with female vocals and its very much shorter, and the lyrics are faithful to the original. the legnth is 3:18 and its a one track promo that was sent out. it does seem to grow on you, as i thought it was crap at first, but i think its ok now. -jeff
