Morrissey mentioned in Rolling Stone's Britney Spears snippet
Posted on Mon, May 29 2000 at 12:20 p.m. PDT
by David T. <david@morrissey-solo.com>
From Dagenham Dave:

I am surprised that no one else mentioned this item yet. Morrissey's name was mentioned in the latest issue of  Rolling Stone (Tom Green cover) in the Britney Spears synopsis of her latest album Oops...I did it again. They go on about how oh so cute her album (do they still use that word?) is. The snippet details the title track saying how "the music comes from Barbra Streisand's 'Woman in Love,' the words evoke Morrissey circa 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish,' but that brutal growl is all Britney...". And how!

Now that I think about, that comparison actually makes sense. I wonder who actually wrote the lyrics to the Britney song.

I think the whole song was written by songwriter/producer/poet(?) Max Martin.

I just threw up my burrito.

fyi, i caught a moment of some show about her on mtv and she only "co-wrote" one song on her album, it was called "dear diary" or something...about a crush on a boy...i'd expect as much. good god how dare they compare anything that spews from her dumb mouth to morrissey's words.

BRITNEY SPEARS IS MY CREATION. I SENT HER TO
DESTROY ALL MUSIC GOOD AND SOON SHE WILL BE
THE ONLY ARTIST IN THE WORLD. I CAN DO THIS
BECAUSE I'M SATAN AND I WANT BRITNEY TO BE
MY DEVIL QUEEN.

Come to think of it, 'Oops...I did it again!' are words that only Morrissey could write; if he wrote this song for her how come he's not getting any credit for it? I think he should get his legal team on to her people straight away and start and finish, a lawsuit with the cheeky madam.

How dare she record one of HIS songs and not give him any credit. He's so modest, he probably wants everyone to think that Britney is nearly as clever as he is. Oh well, at least the honourable Rolling Stone were gracious enough to let us in on the BIG secret.

In light of the recent rumour circulating around this board that Steven Patrick and Jake Walters had a heavy S&M relationship which resulted in our dear M seeking shelter in a hostel for battered women on a wet and windy night, is it possible that our dearly beloved crooner from Stretford also penned that delightful tune for Britney, ,'Hit me baby...one more time!'.

Please let me know if this happens to be the case! Thanx

I am going to lobby that the writers at Rollingstone take drug tests before they write anything.

Hmmmm...Let's think about the similarities between Morrissey and Britney Spears.........
Ok, besides both being Homo sapiens and Anglo's I can't think of a damn thing! The injustice that Rolling Stone has done even printing such a blasphemy (never mind the bimbette with the fake hooters who dared say those words), proves to me that the age of "boy bands" et al. has rotten the minds of these people.

More reasons why we need a new Morrissey album ASAP!

It's funny though, Britney and the backstreetboys have the same songwriter/producer Max Martin. Maybe He is to produce Mozzers new album? Horror!

i'm sorry that everyone here is so close minded about things. just like morrissey's music and words speak to us, britney speaks to another group - a group that would understand what she's talking about (not necessarily morrissey fans) - and i think she does a mighty fine job of it, personally. for all you jokers, no i'm not a 14 year old girl. I'm 24, straight male, and a die hard moz fan...but i do listen to britney spears. try to remember that if can't relate to a certain type of music, it's not ok to call someone a slut, whore, no-talent, etc. especially moz fans - c'mon how many times has he been ridiculed by ignorant people, and what do you think of them?

typical.
