Las Vegas show (10/7) cancelled due to Alain Whyte's back injury

As you have probably already heard, the Vegas House of Blues show was cancelled last night, word coming at around 7pm.

A statement regarding Alain's condition from an anonymous source:

To dispel rumours and clarify matters, Alain wishes to state that he is resting following a back injury which led him to hospital rather than onto the stage at Las Vegas last night.

He is extremely sorry that the show was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and very much hopes that immediate medical care will put him back on the road tomorrow.

We all hope so.

The Coachella festival on Saturday is still on as of this posting (Fri. night). Will post if I hear any updates.

I have heard that Morrissey will be on stage at approximately 6:30 in the evening.

Spin at KROQ with Richard Blade

From Gerald Acuna:

Today, Fri. Oct 8 1999, on Richard Blades' Flashback Lunch, he had in studio Victoria (Reporter) and Mark (Photographer) from Spin Magazine on talking about a possible  Smiths reunion, stating that the rumor of a reunion might have started in the studio by Richard himself.

Victoria states that she is taking the temperature of the ground swelling and she feels like there's another wave of Smiths influence hitting us and the time is right. Richard goes on to say if the two attended the Phoenix show, and they replied that they did not but flew in for the Las Vegas show. Richard in a joking tone asks how was the show, they in return stated it was a show stopper and were resolved to be entertain by a lounge act doing Motown's greatest hits.

Cause Morrissey didn't show up, Richard asks what was the fan reaction and what reason did they receive. They say there were a lot of tears for sure and the reason was or of what eyewitnesses accounts are that the guitarist (I'm assuming Alain Whyte) was taken away in a stretcher because people actually saw his back in spasm. And they talked to El Vez, who was opening for Morrissey, who confirms that the guitarist had a back spasm. Richard states hopefully he can get fixed by a chiropractor and be ready for Coachella. They as well are hoping and Mark offers to crack his back himself.

They say that they along with Spin Magazine are going to Coachella to report on the tour, hoping he makes it. Crossing their fingers. Richard then says that the gist of the article, hopefully Moz shows up, is that maybe one day, because of the strength of Morrissey fans today, that maybe there would be a Morrissey/Marr reunion and bring back Mike and Andy. Victoria and Mark then pleaded a story to unite the Smiths. They ask all Smiths fans out there to concentrate on beaming good vibes to Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke. To be free to play together and set aside their differences, if only for one night. So they ask on three to start beaming those vibes:1...2...3

"How Soon Is Now" is played

So you might expect Moz fans at Coachella to be interview and be photograph in full Smiths attire: flowers in hand, specs covering your eyes, sweating in your Smiths shirt and that blazer to make yourself more attracted to him. Maybe.

Coachella tickets still available

From Gerald Acuna:

The Thur. Oct 7 1999 Los Angeles Times Calendar Weekend section did an article of the venue and the promoters of the Coachella Festival. While reading the article I was amazed to see that of last Monday, they only sold 32,000 for both days. Which the capacity of tickets on sale are 35,000 a day and 70,000 for both days. So I urge you Moz fans to buy Saturday tickets for his show.
