Dresden cancelled, because of the venue Schlachthof (slaughterhouse)?
From Disappointed
Lifeguards:
Here it
is again. We hated the words the disappointed fans used
regarding LAS VEGAS... now we know better... the ticket-sell
went a bit bad in Dresden, as we know. But the reason to
cancel a show 4 hours before beginning must be a joke: MOZ
doesn't want to play a concert in a place called "Schlachthof"
(slaughterhouse) because he's a hardcore-vegetarian? What
about us? Did we choose these awful names of the locations
he's playing? And if that's the reason (what we still can't
believe) why didn't he cancel earlier? The place's name
didn't change in the last decade, we suppose... phrases like
"hold on to your friends" & "defending
your name.." these songs YOU sing - they're not suppose
to mean a thing!
SUNRISE posted the news that the tickets for Dresden might
be valid for the Leipzig gig. "Haus Auensee"
sounds better we hope, Elvis...
From Tina:
I just
called the "Schlachthof" in Dresden, because I
wanted to travel there.... Monday 11:30 a.m.
The guy whom I was talking to said, THAT MORRISSEY WILL NOT
PLAY. he told me he cancelled the show, because he is
vegetarian. The venue once was a place where animals were
slain... (alter Schlachthof)
I´m desperate!!! This is no joke !!!
Does anybody know anything ???

Santa Barbara, Las Vegas summaries / Tour updates
Santa Barbara, CA (Oct. 6) and Las Vegas, NV (Oct. 7) summaries are up. Thanks to Shelley, Ray Chou, Josh, Abrahan Garza and Rachel for their contributions. As a reminder, to keep up with the tour, check the tour page and also MorrisseyTour.com, which has been updating while following the tour. Regarding Salonika, Greece (Nov. 5) - ticket scan and info from Thodoros Papadopoulos: The concert will take place at HELEXPO (STAND 5) IN THE CENTER OF SALONIKA and not at Mylos. This is well known here from 4th of October. Mylos Radio Station "88.5 FM" has informed people about. Also at the Mylos website anyone can find information about the venue and booking (text is in Greek). Spanish dates and also the rumored Manchester date we can assume are off - I have not received official word of any of the shows being on or off, as always I will post if I hear anything. From elsberry: I spoke to Morrissey*s Merchandiser briefly after the Hamburg show yesterday. He gave me his tourplan to have a look at it and there were no Spanish dates on it. He said that the dates keep changing but this was the present state of it.
An offer from Daniel Sousa regarding Portuguese
concert tickets:
Since the
concerts in Spain were canceled many Spanish people have
been contacting me to buy the tickets for them in Portugal
(Lisbon or Oporto) ...If you are having this problem contact
me by e-mail and then you
will have your problem solved.

Morrissey tour and the British press
From smilingontim:
- In the October
13th edition of The Sun (Britain's biggest selling
daily newspaper) there is a snippet of information on
Morrissey's performance at Coachella. This is from
Dominic Mohan's bizarre which modestly describes
itself as the world's No.1 showbiz column...
"Poor
old Morrissey. The dreary singer tried a comeback at a
California pop festival but it was so hot the crowds
stayed in tents for shade."
Any excuse to write more lies springs to mind. All
complaints and demands for apologies to: bizarre@thesun.co.uk.
- The entertainment
magazine "Heat" dated 30 Sept-6 Oct has a picture of Morrissey
on it's new tours announced page. The UK dates are printed
along with the following preview.
"The
king of knock-knock jokes himself will end an unusually
strident world tour with his first UK shows in two years.
There's every reason to expect the former Smiths frontman
to preview material from his new album, which may yet
surface this side of the millennium. His opera-centric
choice of venues would suggest that there is a flamboyant
stage show afoot. Fasten your corset and sing along. (3
out of 5 stars).
- The
November issue of Uncut has a tour ad. This is nearly
the same one that appeared in Q but it is about half the
size.

Recoil's Alan Wilder on Morrissey
From Michael Nissen:
I just
found this on the "Recoil"
homepage, where Alan Wilder (former Depeche Mode)
answers questions from fans of Recoil. I am myself not
really fan of Depeche Mode or Recoil, but a friend of mine
told me of Alan Wilder's comments on Morrissey. These are
listed below.
Q+A's:
Have you ever met Morrissey and if so what do you think
of him?
- I've never met him but I'm a great admirer of his
words. His music's not adventurous enough though.
Do you not feel that if Moz [Morrisey] was more
'musically adventurous' it would perhaps detract from the
lyrics for which is he esteemed?
- No, on the contrary, it would enhance them.
My question is about Morrissey. Have you had a chance to
pick up his new album 'My Early Burglary Years', a B-side +
rarity collection? If so, what do you think of it? And
secondly, and more importantly, is Moz on your list of
possible vocalists for the next Recoil album?
- No, I haven't heard it. I haven't actually seen it -
is it out yet? I do like Morrissey's voice and I think he
would suit Recoil. What do you think?
Have you ever seen Morrissey live?
- No.

Neil Hannon on The Smiths
From imre:
I've
found this on a Divine Comedy fan page. It's from an interview:
The Smiths?
"I worked out that they were in fact geniuses but after
the event. I just appreciated the wit. The musical and
lyrical wit. I don't think that wit carries on into
Morrissey's work".

Sack interview (12/97)
From Sweetness:
Here is an interview
with the opening band for the European shows from Dublin,
"SACK"!! (12/97) Excerpt:
And why
not? One of SACK's more recent Dublin gigs in one of their
favourite haunts, Whelans, saw them play a blistering set to
a capacity crowd. Amongst the crowd stood ex Smiths frontman
Morrissey himself who popped in to see what all the fuss was
about - and indeed , he left the venue very pleased (or
worried?), safe in the knowledge that music is alive and
well in Ireland.
and some more
info on Sack...
