Dresden cancellation mentioned at Music365

From Matthew Zolan:

Picked this up from Music365. Even though it may make sense, I have no idea how NME "understands" that Moz decided not to play due to the venue being an old slaughterhouse, and not for the original reason stated. I guess NME knows everything.

Excerpt:

Morrissey Refuses To Play German Slaughterhouse

MORRISSEY refused to play a gig in Germany last week because it was booked to take place in a converted slaughterhouse.

Devout vegetarian Morrissey refused to perform at the aptly named Dresden Slaughterhouse on October 18, pulling out hours before he was due onstage.

The former Smiths singer's agent Mike Hinc told British music magazine NME that the reason for the cancellation was because of the layout of the venue. He said: "There was no direct access to the stage, we couldn't put our lights up and it was just the wrong shape. It just couldn't be done".

The NME however, understands that Morrissey cancelled because he only realised the venue was a converted slaughterhouse when he arrived and became increasingly squeamish about the gig until he finally decided not to play.

Why does NME hate him so much?

Because they envy him.

Thanx, this reason sounds better for us, doesn't it? (disappointed-Dresden-ticket-buyers-but-then-happy-to-see-him-in-"lipstick-L"-ones).
After all, put the reasons we wrote & were written together & try to explain the poeple, who didn't catch a gig, why a cancellation can't be made earlier than that. Such a little thing makes such a big difference. I'm not saying that MOZ didn't care about his fans (who cares really?) but all reasons can't take away the disappointement.
There are other ways, we all know...I hope not to read anything about this cancellation anymore - I'm just glad that I saw him in Leipzig and I feel with those who couldn't. It was great, however...

till then.

I always thought Moz fans were just being hypersensitive about the NME, but I'm beginning to see where they are coming from. Anyone can see from the photos that the venue was completely impossible.

Hell, wasn't the venue itself claiming that Moz cancelled coz of the moo factor?

I see NME as grizzled SOBs that get all choked up knowing their boy is returning home, and are afraid to show their hearts on their sleeve.

They maybe tough. They may have had better seats than me at Coachella, close enough for Morrissey to unzip his pants and take a leak on them. They may not report accurate news, but deep down, they still have hearts of squishy goo. And we must have a love fest for them. Let's send them messages of love and support telling them, "it's OK. Do NOT be afraid of your feelings. We come to nuture and to be your mirror. We know that you feel bitter that you can't feel nothing but hate, but we acknowledge your humanity."

We can send them chocolates and fragrant bath oils, and everything will be OK...

NME must have forgotten the "Alma Matters" video that was shot in a converted slaughterhouse in LA, CA (USA). SPM has stated that he has no problem with the past of any location. Just another example of NME continuing to go out of it's way in bashing our beloved Steven. They just hate it when our friend packs in more of a crowd than everyone else at Qoachilla (SP?)!

He who reads and believes NME should have his head examed! Thank you, NME, for all the trials against Morrissey! Itīs like seeing a bunch of fishes ridicule a dolfin!
I just feel sad for you who missed the Dresden gig. Saw him in Hamburg and in Stockholm. He was great, witty and beatiful, of course!
"Does anyone want to come to my hotelroom!?" he asked in Stockholm before Last Night....
We all screamed, naturallly! "Okey! I love you! I`ll take the lot of you!"
It was a magic moment!

I think that the NME writers must start to hate bands that they like after five years or they'll get the sack. Morrissey isn't the only one, they now hate former favourites as Manics, Blur and Oasis too.
Good paper though.

It didn`t surprise me. In my opinion Dresden was
cancelled, because to less tickets was sold.
The Point is, why the smiths since 1983-1987 or MOZ never played in the south of Germany? Munich
ist the third biggest town in good old Germany.
So, the tour-manager did a big fault.
But Morrissey thank you! There is a light that
never goes out!

When we spoke with Moz he indicated that he would have played the slaughterhous anyhow, but the fact that it was in such bad shape made it impossible to put on the show.
