James Millionaires review at Q-online - "We Hate It..." reference
Posted on Thu, Oct 21 1999 at 8:29 a.m. PDT

From JP:

At Q online, ...in their review of the new James album Millionaires the writer quotes "We Hate it When Our Friends Become..."

Excerpt:

They say, although “they” are often wrong, that Morrissey’s 1992 single We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful was a rueful commentary on the career curve of James’s Tim Booth, whom Morrissey famously endorsed in their early days. If this is the case, then a better title might have been We Hate It When Our Friends Become Mildly Successful In A Bohemian Kind Of Way Then Nearly Split Up Then Become The Anthem Rockers Of Madchester Then Meet Brian Eno Then Nearly Split Up Again And Then Enter The Millennium Doing Really Rather Well Thank You....

Excellent! James well deserves any mild publicity push they make get due to their latest album release, Millionaires. Obviously The Smiths were beautiful for parading James around with them as an opening band back in the 80's but their career really has come into it's own since. Let us not forget the beautiful cover The Smiths did of James, "What's the World". One great play deserves another.

Starchild,
Face Facts dearie.
James would be nothing without the Smiths
"forcing" him into the spotlight and practically
making him go on stage. He should be more
greatful to those who put him where he is.
Thats all.

James is a great band, Tim Booth writes well and they have a really pleasant sound to their songs...

The new James album is magnificent. It's easily the best thing they have ever recorded. Morrissey would be proud to say the least.
