Ian McCulloch, yet again

From Charles Byron:

Yesterday, Echo & the Bunnymen played for the first time in Buenos Aires at the Opera Theatre. Since they're my all time second favourite band, I went to see them.

After the show (by the way, it was great!), I went to have some drinks at a bar called "La Cigale" with my girlfriend and guess who I was with? Yes! You're right... Ian McCulloch...

The man was in a good mood, so I felt free to talk a couple of minutes about the concert, people in South America and music in general. Since I was wearing a Belle and Sebastian T-shirt we talked about them (he doesn't know a lot about their music) and of course, I couldn't help but to ask him about Moz.

First, he smiled when he saw my pin of The Queen Is Dead and then, when I asked him what he think about Morrissey, he laughed with his friends and said something like "aarrrrgg come on! He's not bad, but I don't like him"... Also, in his usual way he said things like "Aren't we the greatest band on earth?" Well, I thought you might be interested in it...

Oh my God! The best voice in the world talking about the best lyricist in the universe.
Anyway, don't pay attention to Mac's comments (or at least don't take it seriously), he usually makes fun of anybody.

Echo and the Bunnymen are definitely my second favourite band. Echo are and never have been totally appreciated. The best bands usually dont get much attention by the mainstream. Everyone is into Rap or should I say Crap!

the nerve of the man. he needs to show a bit more respect even if what he says is off the record. it just makes me so mad. i can't take it anymore. i think i'm going to explode. bang. i just blew up.

i listen to their "songs to learn and sing" and it is great, just great. how come the lyrics in evergreen are about nothing, and the melody is so different? i think his voice is not as good as it was. they sound like oasis now - especially the lyrics (he even said he and noel are the same...or was it liam?)

I saw Echo last Friday night at the TLA in Philadelphia. And I have seen him before in philly as well. So...I say this with hesitation. He did not sound that good this time around. Maybe it was poor sound, I dunno. But, his voice was straining. The music was too loud for anyone. But he did seem to love to rock it out. Anyway, his self loathing and why me attitude, as per his new album is totally egotistical and currently being portrayed on stage. So I can believe him when he says E&TBM are greatest band in the world. That's debatable of course. I guess somebody has got to say it. Everyone thinks it, but they don't say it publicly. You got to hand it to him at least he gives us fodder for discussion. That's more than many bands do these days.
