Johnny Marr NOT confirmed for Coachella - clarification
Posted on Mon, Aug 9 1999 at 8:48 a.m. PDT
by David T. <david@Morrissey-solo.com>
Thanks again to Jose Maldonado for clarifying that Johnny Marr is NOT confirmed to join Beck at the Coachella festival - turns out to be a little wishful thinking by "Dicky" Blade.

As I mentioned in the comments, Richard Blade took it upon himself to put two and two together and come up with five like so many others and jumped the gun. Richard does not I repeat, DOES NOT know Johnny Marr will be joining Beck at Coachella for a fact. He said something to the effect of <wouldn't it be great if?> There is NO word yet on either Morrissey's or Beck's camp as to whether or not Johnny will even be there.

yes...just because he helps some on the album doesn't mean he tours with him. So I figured it was something like this.

Damn it Marr!!!! Why are you pulling this s&!#?
You can't say your gonna be there one day and then
freak out and then change your mind. You owe me and all the other Smith fans who plan on driving out to see you perform. I though the whole reason he was in LA was for this damn show??Whose with me?? Does anyone know about how far Chespaw is from LA? Any Ladies want to Motor out west with the Warrenmeister?? Let me know?

Hey Warren, do you know how to read? Johnny Marr never confirmed his apearance one way or the other. It was an over anxious DJ on a Los Angeles radio station that got this rumour started which was later fueled by wishful thinking. So to say he owes us Smiths fans anything is a bit overdoing it. He has given us plenty.
And by the way, what is with the silly lynch mob mentality? "Whose with me?" you ask. I am assuming no one.

Dearest Frankie or should I say Francis?
I have a "Lynch Mob mentality"? Ouch. Simply by
asking "whose with me"? If I would have said "lets get him" or "Death to Johnny" I could at least understand your comment. Frankie, You know what happens when you assume, don't you???

Once more, Warren, you have posted something rediculous. I am with you Frankie. Just like last time when you acted as though Morrissey had written here to tell everyone that he wasn't touring. Same thing here with Johnny. Just because there is news on Morrissey or The Smiths doesn't mean that a band member phoned david.

Corey,
Is that ridiculous with an "Re" or an "Ri"?
I am not over reacting!! I just have a very hard
time with these guys making promises they have no
intention on keeping? I bought my ticket Saturday morning on the notion that Johnny and Moz were going to perform together with a chance that Mike and Andy might be there too. And now Johnny is having "second thoughts" WHATEVER man!!!
I mean why were we voting on the three Smith's songs we wanted to hear? For our health? Am I right guys or what??

Wow Warren you still haven't read any of the postings about how it is/was "rumoured" to be that Johnny and Morrissey might play on the same stage on the same day. Never was it said they would play together for certain, and if you bought your ticket for that reason alone then too bad. God forbid you can not go to a show featuring Morrissey and be happy.
Are you dillusional "second thoughts" from Johnny Marr, and "making promises they can't keep"? Where was any of this mentioned? And before you overreact once again be sure and read the history of the whole Coachella/Morrissey/Marr/Beck saga as found on Morrissey.Solo the last couple of weeks and educate yourself.
Indeed we all know what they say about assuming and you Warren are a prime example.

I knew from the beggining that the johhny thing was just a rumor and bought my tickets To see Morrissey just as i had planned so i dont really think you should have bought them if you expected some kind of reunion. That was just something everyone thouht about- i dont think anyone thought it was a promise that johhny had to made to us.

I could care less whether we blame ourselves or hate Johnny. I have to say though that some of you are down right mean and spending way to much time trying to come up with witty put downs for each other. To Fight Fire with fire and so on, Frankly Shankly you mean, mean, filthy, stupid little man mind your own buisness. What is it of your concern what this other one says? None. I truly hope you get what you deserve and no I know is near you when it happens

All of this talk about who is more important between Moz and Marr is a bit silly, but.. In my opinion their combined efforts in the Smiths will probably never again be repeated, at least in originality and have an impact on the music scene like they did back in the day. Now as solo-artists, Marr may be revered a bit more by the press, but for what? Mainly for his work with the Smiths, and because he, like most ex-guitar gods, is a hired hand in the studio and is involved in various subliminal (electronic) side projects that do not make the impact they should, given his talent. Morrissey is seen as rehashing his material by some critics, but his fans know
otherwise. He had stayed true to himself and it is much more obvious with his releases over the years than Marr's. That may not be a fair statement, since Marr may still be true to himself (but electronic?!), well let's just say, it's not as obvious that Marr is the same artist he once was. People talk about Marr and Bernard Butler. I expected Marr to be making records that blow away Butler, but that hasn't happened. Butler is a very gifted young guitarists, much like Marr USED to be. But in my opinion, Butler as the student has
surpassed the teacher in his skills. I know Johnny has it in him, he just hasn't shown us. After the first electronic record, I was really disapppointed in Marr and could not believe it was the same person. With Morrissey time and again he has continued to touch the same emotional nerve with me as he did with the Smiths. So, personally, if I had to choose one artist to support NOW, and lie in expectation of each release and single, it would definitley be Morrissey. A reunion tour would be great, even with just Morrissey and
Marr. And if anyone could bring out Marr's greatness again, I have to believe it would be Morrissey. Also, as I hate festival, I'm waiting to see Moz headline his own show (as he should). Can't wait for those US tour dates!

I agree with Frankie, maybe someone should recheck the history of this story before making absurd and ridiculous comments. That goes for you too FrkShk wasteofspace.
I for one will be happy on October 9, 1999 regardless of who plays with Morrissey. See you guys there.

oh excuse the type-o. And it's not like we sit around looking for "witty" ways to put people down or whatever. This is a message board and of course people are going to have conflicting thoughts. It's not like we are hurling obscenities...so calm down. It is just that Warren here keeps making assumptions and when these assumptions are proven wrong by a rumour he is freaking out.

Warrenmeister, you really need to calm down! You obviously do not read what is posted on this site otherwise you wouldn't be throwing a hissy fit. Please do us a favor and shut it!

Ahhhhh!!!! Why is everyone picking on me. I feel
like I'm in band class again and all the guys are ragging me. Remember Moz was shunned by his peers
and look how he turned out. I have been writing a lot of songs (that I pull from my life experiences) and I have a guitarist and my brother play the drums (soso) and I think you guys would be very surprised how my music paralels
the early Smiths, some songs are just as good! If anyone plays bass let me know, were having tryouts soon. Ann, some advice for you, stop being so annoying! you sound like my Grandmother.

you understand you are not the only troubled youth who posts here, right? Please, don't act like you are the only one who gets picked on. And I'm sorry, but I doubt your stuff parallels the smiths. Many people have troubled childhoods, but only one turns out like Morrissey.

Your all MAD! MAD I say! Funny how quickly we go to slash the throat of a deluded young lad. But hey, This a post "your comment" message board, so even if the info you place on here is wrong, it's still your comment. Once realizing this though, don't be afraid have your comment shunned by all and ridiculed. Try and be nice. have fun. Go and see Mozz regardless of who plays with him. You will be happy. Smiles to all.

Hello everyone,
I'm relatively new to Morrissey-solo--brilliant site I might add. Here's the truth: if Johnny turns up @ Coachella, wonderful; dream come true. If not, who gives a toss?! Point being, Morrissey is playing the festival--an American fest no less.
So, chill out lot...enjoy the Moz!
Cheers...

I'm not trying to hold any grudges with anybody here but I know I'm constantly reminded that i'm not the only one from the Pittsburgh area that listens to Morrissey/Smiths (not mentioning names) oh and that I "worry" about what other people think about me or that I was shoving the issue of getting people into listening to Moz "to much"....... that joke isn't funny anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark get off my case, Take a Chill Pill!!! I just got out of Summer school, is that OK with you?? I lost my computer priviledges for 2 days and have to check all my emails and stuff at my friend Troy's house. My Grandma is really starting
to annoy the hell out of me. I have to share my
room with her(for the whole month of August) while she is down. She is really crampin' my style cause no one wants to come over and hang out
while she's here.

Poor Warren. "How can someone, so young, sing words so sad?" Adolesence is a tough time, and if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'll always be here for you. All of us elder Smiths/Moz fans must do our part to help the NEW GENERATION of fans conquer the predjudices they will inevitably encounter everyday.
