Billy Bragg comments (again)
Posted on Sun, Jul 11 1999 at 9:13 p.m. PDT
by David T. <david@Morrissey-solo.com>
From Maladjusted Matt:

This is from the July 1999 issue of Q, so I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. It's their summer festival guide, which features short interviews with a number of performers. From the Billy Bragg interview...

Best festival experience?
... I also remember playing football backstage one year (at Glastonbury) with the Housemartins and a white stretch limo drew up and the Smiths got out. Morrissey's female minder - a big schoolma'am of a woman - went into the ladies, pushed everyone out and stood there like a leviathan for 20 minutes while Morrissey went in. We asked the other Smiths if Morrissey wanted to play football with us but I'm not sure his mum would've let him.

It seems like Mr. Bragg can't do an interview these days without mentioning dear old Mozzer.

Who cares what Billy Bragg has to say? He could only dream about reaching as many people as Morrissey. Billy Bragg is a nobody. I have one of his CD's and it sucks. Also, why are there always so many negative comments lately on this Morrissey Solo news page? I don't care about Billy Bragg and I nobody should care what he thinks about The Smiths or Morrissey PERIOD.

Steven, if you read this, please put "Pregnant For the Last Time" on the next compilation CD. I can't find it.

Actually, Billy Bragg really is somebody. And a good somebody at that. He's done a lot of wonderful work in his time, and I'm always thrilled to hear his voice on a new album.

If you*re asking me dear old Billy just wants to overcome the fact that on his Grant Showbiz (who we all remember from those lucky Smiths-days, don*t we..?!) produced album "William Bloke" he uttered the very words:" I dreamed I saw a tree full of angels up on Primrose Hill..." . And now - WHO might he be referring to, WHO lived up there, hm? Well, yes yes....He*s been caught, that little mischievous one....hahaha.

cheers, billy. You*re not as evil as you*d like to be, are you...huhu

If I've told you once- I've told you once, so let me tell you twice- that billy is a pathetic bastard, who feels the need to slag Moz, for no other reason than to create talk like this- assuming that it'll make some silly girls curious to hear what a huge prick sounds like when set in front of some recording equiptment... it's a sad plot, kids, don't buy his fourth rate crap.

Who is Billy Bragg? This is not a joke, I swear.

I don't think Billy Bragg has anything against Morrissey. If you knew him, you would find that its just his sence of humor-which most of you seem to be lacking. You cant take everything so seriously or you will be as miserable as the critics say Morrissey is.

P.S. after all, Billy Bragg did do that Smiths cover on "The Smiths is Dead" CD

Yes he did, and also Ask and Jeane so leave Billy alone! you should read his previous comments; he was so spot on when he was on Jo Whiley, not just about Moz but Britney Spears - saying Baby One More Time was submissive, exploitative and anti-girlpower!

And Billy's version of Never Had No One Ever was the only worthwhile moment on the abberation that was The Smiths Is Dead!
