Unfortunately, Ohio isn't exactly the hotbed of modern intelligence and originality, and therefore has nothing happening in the way of celebrating Mr. Morrissey's birthday.
I would, however, like to wish our dear Steven a very happy 40th, and it is my most sincere dream that he continue to serenade us all for many, many more years to come.

The magical age of 40.....you have done much more with it than most people could ever hope for. You're lucky enough to be talented to where you can escape the drudgery of normal living. Yes, you complain that people don't have interesting lives and don't even try to improve them, but can they help it? They know they're doing good for themselves if they can find someone to think for them.
What about you? Are you still looking? Are you desperately looking for a normal life even though you tried that once and there was absolutely nothing there? That's where the average person on the street has a leg up. They may giggle and snort at "Suddenly Susan" yet, they've got interchangeable conversation that the rest of the known universe can jump in on.
From the looks of you playing hooky from your career, I'd say you're trying to achieve that normalcy. It's gotta be hard being the paen of eccentricity and trying to start up a friendly conversation on the street. Well, here's to finding the happy medium. You have paid your dues.

For many years, I have dealt with much in my life. The untimely death of loved ones, friends, and the only one true love of my life. There are people who take so much for granted, and it's disgusting. It's like there's room in the world only for society, and not humanity. Throughout it all, there is only one man who can understand the complexities of life, and provide relief during the most complicated of times.
In the spin of a Morrissey record, you know exactly what one deals with. The entertainment industry is built on creating illusions, but you took a different path, and reminded us how real our pain is, and that someone cares. Rather than those other singers that try to disguise the labors of life, you allowed us to accept it.
You are the only true friend in a world full of fairweathers. You made the dead dance. You made the unheard sing. You welcomed the shunned. And, you provided a voice for all of us. Your love can be felt even before we press 'play'. There has never been an artist so honest.
I hope you continue writing such wonderful music; you are appreciated for being alive even more so than delivering our favorite records. You made us cry. You made us laugh. You made us feel. You made us reflect. And, in a mad world, you can easily make sense of it all. Had you never been a singer, today's feedback would've still been similar--only someone special could've had this much impact on anyone's life. And, you've done it to millions.

i believe i will never be able to truly express how grateful i am to be exposed to the smiths. with morrissey's music, i have learned to accept myself, to feel charming for once, for me, not for anyone else. though love may be a miserable lie, i will always have my smiths albums, despite the ridicule from those who cannot see the strong attachment of moz fans. it's almost cliche-ique, yet, the music means so much to me. it's childish and it's silly, but what else can i do? and as i grow older, i will not forget the songs that made me cry and the songs that saved my life. i will never forget the times i've listened in solitude to my walkman, absorbing all which resonated from the earphones. i will never forget walking down the school hallway with "last night i dreamt that somebody loved me" as i wished the moment would not end. i will always remember gazing outside the car window with "there is a light that never goes out," at the brink of tears and how i clasp my hands to my ears to get the full effect of "william, it was really nothing" as it meant so much to me in the summer. above all, with the smiths, i finally realized that everybody's got to live their life and i've got to live mine. so today, i will celebrate, at home, working on my english paper. i still will be by your side...and i'll love the persona of morrissey till the day i die.

I could remember more or less eight years ago when my older brother introduced me to Morrissey and The Smiths and that changed my life! I remember my parent two years ealier getting divorced, I thought it was all my fault and I felt alone and depressed. But until I heard one song that me me who I am today ( ok this is going to sound cheesy but oh well It ain't easy being cheesy) " Sing Your Life " that song brought me out and told me me life is a bunch crap and live life the way you want to and forget what else everyone thinks of you! I learned to live life the way I want to live it. Well listening to Morrissey and The Smiths made me have the craziest friend ( Bianca R.) I could ever have but I left and I never said good-bye to her. Im sorry for giving my sappy life story to everyone! But if it wasn't for Morrissey and The Smith I would not know who I would be today! Maybe if I didn't listen to them I would probally be on drugs or in a gang or even possibly even be dead. So all I want to say to Morrissey I love you for what you have done to my life and Thank You! Morrissey...Happy Belated Birthday. In hopes that you do actually read this,I want to say that I hope you do know what an influence you have been in so many peoples lives,when I was a teenager it seemed like the only real escape that I had was to listen to your music,I related so much to your lyrics.I know you have probably heard that many times but I just wanted to tell you that I think you are a blessing in so many peoples lives.
