More Bowlarama - Gary Day return?
Posted on Tue, Apr 6 1999
by David T. <david@Morrissey-solo.com>
From Kevin Stephens:

...Man it was a hassle getting in the bar. I was starting to panic when all my friends where inside and I was outside the bar. But it was all worth it in the end. Seeing Moz drinking Coronas, oh man it turned my frown instantly into a smile. I did get Moz's autograph but I didn't get to have a conversation with him. Although it looked like he was very pleased to give me his autograph. But the person I did have a conversation with was Mr. Boorer. The first thing I asked him was "Where the hell is Gary Day." Boz said that he had been playing with him in London and that he is doin good. Then I asked if they were going to let Gary back into the band. Boz replied, "Gary wants his old job back and I'm working on getting him back in the band." Then I ended the conversation with a question that will give an answer the Sander. I asked Boz, "So is there goin to be another album?" He replied, "We've been writing some stuff but the record company dropped us so we don't know what's goin to happen." So to all of you out there don't lose hope it could be a good possibility. I have a couple of pics from that night once I get them scanned I will send them out.

Comments / Notes

I should prefer Johnny Marr return, not Gary Day. Oh, but dreams have a knack of just not coming true.

Too bad no-one noticed Gary Day isn't a very good bassist... I still think Moz should talk to Andy Rourke, or at least keep Jonny Bridgwood...

Thank you for clearing this one, Kevin. I knew I could count on someone over there.
Even though the message isn't that optimistic for the near future, but I can't imagine that there isn't any record company interested in a new Morrissey album.

Hmmm...how strange. Just as Spencer is out, Gary Day might be back in.

When did the great Spencer Cobrin leave?

Gary Day made 'Your Arsenal' everything it is
, but what about Jonny Bridgewood? Would they really abandon him after three albums?

What are you talking about Gary Day making Your Arsenal everything it is? Alain wrote like 8 or 9 of the songs. How exactly did Gary make it EVERYTHING it is? Just wondering.

I THINK THAT ALAIN WHYTE IS A BIG PART OF THE BAND IF IT WASNT FOR ALAIN AND BOZ THE BAND WOULDNT BE AS GREAT. THOSE TWO MAKE A GREAT TEAM.

KEVIN I WOULD LIKE TO GET A HOLD OF SOME OF THOSE PICS YOU HAVE OF MOZ AND BOZ.

Well, that was clearly an exaggeration on my part.
Alain Whyte was the creative force behind 'Your Arsenal' (and the driving force when Morrissey most needed it, after THAT album) I just thought Gary Day was the sort of bassist Moz hadn't had since Andy Rourke... but the previous statement was definitely somewhat of an exaggeration. Whoops.

Well, Gary Day definately didnt make "Your Arsenal. But he was definately a part of it. To me no other album compares to "Your Arsenal." Seeing interviews from the band they seemed like they were all friends. Something was said that they knew each other before the band. To me being in a band with friends would be more fun. Maybe thats why such a great album was put out. Or maybe Im totally wrong. But that line up put out what is one of my favorite albums of all time. That line up was when Moz was at his prime and I would like to see it again.

Gary Day could NEVER play the bass lines that Jonny Bridgwood plays. Jonny is the best bassist that Moz has ever had, he'll be missed by those who appreciate a good bassist when they hear one. Bringing Gary back will be a mistake.

Gary Day needs to come home. Any man with a switch blade knife can be in any band he wants.
