Bring Me The Head Of Johnny Marr, a film
Posted on Tue, Dec 22 1998
by David T. <david@Morrissey-solo.com>
From ~Arielle Bender~:

The band Venus Vegas (formerly Dishwasher) will present their soundtrack to the filmletBring Me The Head Of Johnny Marr in Cologne (Germany), Jan. 9th at Gebäude 9. The gig starts at 9:00 pm, support:Stau.

I found no further information on the band, they are however listed under the category 'Soul/Rap/R&B' inthe Cologne city magazine 'Prinz'.

The short entry does not give much information: 'a new wild act from of Dishwasher-liability; a gruff trip throughpop music'.

Comments / Notes

The horrific title and r&b/soul/rap influence of the soundtrack begs the question: JUST WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS "FILMLET" ABOUT?

Seems like nowadays Marr wouldn't mind associating his name with anything musically since his own carrer has been in the shadows compared to Morrissey.

Hmmmm...I don't know about the film or the people behind it (the title, in case anyone didn't recognize it, is a reference to "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia", which was directed by "Wild Bunch" auteur du violencia Sam Peckinpah.)

However, I would disagree with the assertion that Johnny Marr cannot be associated with rap....listen to a few of the tracks on Electronic's eponymous debut, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Maybe you don't like them, but it's clear that Bernard Sumner is *trying* to rap....

I think the original source for the title--if there even is one--is "Bring me the head of John the Baptist." Which, of course, was used in Oscar Wilde's retelling of the story of Salome.

I'd like to respond to particleman's comment: "What is wrong with people who listen to soul/rap/r&b.... They really urk me" -- Don't be so judgemental, I'm very sure there are people out there flaming us everyday. They probably tell themselves, "those smiths fans really irk me (yeah, they probably know how to spell irk), associating our kind of music with Johnny Marr?? ahhhhh!!" well, I wouldn't want that happening, would you?

Oh, brother: it's the PC police again. Quick, everyone - retract your opinions!!!! We must blindly love everything and everyone and NOT be judgemental!!
