Morrissey later bought a house in Dublin, but his restlessness made it impossible for him to settle there. He has lived in London, Manchester, Hollywood and Dublin, but the concept of "home" appears to have become increasingly elusive. More than ever, he has become the outsider immortalised in his lyrics.

Now approaching 40, he continues to send intimate letters from a tortured psyche with lyrics that betray pained vulnerability and protestations of persecution often wrapped in layers of playful self-irony and engaging wit.
