Walk right through the door: 12 songs about shoplifting - The A.V. Club

    Excerpt:

    2. The Smiths, “Shoplifters Of The World Unite”

For one reason or another, most of the best shoplifting tunes come from British bands, and “Shoplifters Of The World Unite” is no exception. Released by The Smiths as a one-off single in 1987, the track is not so much an ode to actual boosting as it is to, as Morrissey said in a 1987 interview, “spiritual shoplifting” or “cultural shoplifting.” Basically, it’s about “taking things and using them to your own advantage.” Even the song is lifted, to some extent: Musically, it bears a strong resemblance to T. Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution.” Not surprisingly, this egocentric tune is one of Morrissey’s favorite Smiths cuts, and one he performs ...

‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ Soundtrack Channels ’70s, ’80s & ’90s Angst - Idolator

We’d say the makers of upcoming film The Perks Of Being A Wallflower have the soundtrack almost right. (It’s out on the super-crowded release day of September 18.) The 1999 cult hit novel by Stephen Chbosky takes place over the 1991-1992 school year, so college radio classics like The Smiths‘ “Asleep”, XTC‘s “Dear God”, New Order‘s “Temptation” and Sonic Youth‘s “Teenage Riot” seem right at home on the tracklist for the film (also directed by Chbosky). But we said “almost” because we’re not quite sure how Cracker‘s 1993 tune “Low” made its way in there — especially given that it wasn’t even released as a single until 1994.

At any rate, jump below to see the tunes that made the cut for the Pittsburgh-set coming-of-age tale starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller and Paul Rudd.

The Houston Press has a project where I've mashed up old photos with their current location. Today's installment showcases Morrissey invading Houston on July 29th, 1992.

Its on page 3 with accompanied by news footage from the day.

    1. 20 years ago: Morrissey at Record Rack July 29th, 1992, Shepherd and Alabama.

Fresh from his record-breaking first solo world-tour, he nearly caused a riot as 500 people were promised to meet the former Smiths frontman in a rare in-store signing and many more showed up. Proof that this was pre-internet: Not a single mention from any of our local newscasters (many who are still on the air) that Morrissey was ever in a band called The Smiths. See video:

Morrissey granted the Keys to the City by the mayor of Tel-Aviv; ticket sales information - true-to-you.net
    22 July 2012

On July 21st in Israel Morrissey was granted the Keys to the City by the mayor of Tel-Aviv. This is a very rare accolade and Morrissey told Israeli television reporters that he is "delighted to be honored and recognized," and he vowed to always do his best for the city of Tel-Aviv. It is the very first of such honors that Morrissey has received.

Morrissey played to a sold-out crowd of more than 5,000 that evening at Bitan 1.

In terms of ticket sales Morrissey's current tour of Europe and Asia has proven to be the most successful of his entire career.

The final ticket count for Morrissey's show at Bitan 1, at 5,900, out-sold recent shows by both Bruce Springsteen and Madonna. Promoters for Bitan 1 ...
