Floh RIP

Floh is dead now. The cat that chose to live with us, formerly being a stray cat, now in the last years a complete lap cat. During the last weeks we noticed that his chin began to change. He lost teeth and his the whole mouth area started to deform. In the last days, he was unable to keep any food, or to eat. It was so weird, to drive there with him being quite alive and still willing to cuddle - knowing that we'll return with his lifeless body in the basket. I didn't know if I could do that - decide what if he should live or die. The vet is thankfully a warm person and made it very quick. God it all happened so fast! I thought it would take maybe 10 minutes or so but it was just seconds... he breathed once more and then his soul was gone, his heart stopped beating. Floh was very calm and relaxed. I was trembling but I didn't cry until now. It is just still too weird. I know I will miss him everyday when I get out of the house - I was usually the one to let him inside in the morning. It wasn't "my" cat and he didn't live with us, but we shared the house and when Tommi's parents were on holidays he was looking for our company and spend even some time upstairs. He didn't deserve to suffer. He was such a cool cat. I might write more later, but not now...

I'm sorry to hear about poor little Floh. I know how attached one can become to furry little felines. It's strange, just a couple of days ago - when I was unpacking some boxes - I came across a picture of my old cat Lucy. She was a long-haired domestic, black and white, like Floh. God, I can still remember when she died... December 9th, 1986. It's hard, I know. They become a part of your life, your family... so very precious.

Sweetness, I know you're mourning, but it will get easier with time - believe me.

Warmest regards,

I know exactly how your feeling as I had to put down my beloved Sabrina, a beautiful black short hair, on a rainy night in July '96. I stayed with her till her last breath just so she'd have my smell and I'd know she went quick and at ease.
She was having kidney failure and not expected to live very long. It was hard not to be selfish and keep her alive to satisfy me but when I wasn't home she'd lay in my closet and cry. Aaaccckk still brings tears to my eye.

It's horrible that they can't tell us they're in pain or feeling ill. Sabrina purred all the way there and in my arms. I guess they do this even in times of stress.

Sounds like he was much loved and had a good life, that's all we can offer these furry little beings that slip in and out of our lives that give us much more than they know.

All Cats go to Heaven (Score:2)
Floh. Such a cutie. I remember, the last time I visited, petting him while he circled us at the dining room table and while you made the tea. I think he chose a very nice family to spend his last days with, and I'm sure he knew how much you loved him. It seems to me that he'll be sitting on the doorstoop waiting for your arrival.

What do cats do when they go to heaven? They nap in the giant patches of sunlight that appear in every room in every house. They catch every fly that they care to chase. They sit in laps of people who will pet them until they're asked to stop. (And they never have to get up to pee or to answer the phone.) They sit and watch goldfish for hours without being shooed away and occasionally will eat one. (They're not all that tasty, but on earth where pet fish are forbidden- they're ever so alluring.) They play with yarn and the specially-trained yarn-players who are there only for the cats' amusement. I think they must really play lots in heaven, after they've done all that napping here on earth.

Really, life in heaven isn't all that different from life here on earth, if a kitty has been lucky and lived with a nice family. (Like yours.) My grandfather often said he'd like to come back in the next life as a cat living with our family since all their needs were looked after and they could amuse themselves as they pleased with complete lack of responsibility. If Floh finds my grandpa up there, he can get a good tummy rub and a scratch under the chin.

    (((Hugs))) to you,
