04:33 PM - And so that was Christmas
[ ]
Well, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

I can't remember where I left off last, but rest assured nothing of any remote interest happened between then and Christmas. I got my cards and presents sorted and all that nonsense - the sort of stuff that annoys me about Christmas.

It wasn't all that great this year. Don't know why, but last year's was better. Better nights outs beforehand, Christmas Eve was better, Christmas Day itself was better, my birthday was better, etc.

I got various unexciting things for Christmas, but that doesn't really matter. I'm not that bothered about presents anyway. I suppose the day itself was fun enough, but I drank too much and ended up with a hideous hangover for Boxing Day, which you'll all know is my birthday. Twenty-three and counting. That pretty much wasted my birthday, as I didn't get up until about 3pm or 4pm and still felt horrendous, and nobody visited to wish me a happy birthday or anything. I'd say it was right up there with the shittest birthdays I've ever had, and that's against some stiff competition, since my birthday is always rubbish. The last good one was my 18th. Every one since then has been disappointing or a total non-event. I watched Meet The Parents on TV, then later felt well enough to surf the internet a bit.

The following day we had a piss-up, which was quite good, although only two of us were actually properly drinking, so it could have been better.

Sunday was...mostly dull...sat up all night watching Baltimore against Pittsburgh, which wasn't as good as it could have been if Cincinnati had won, but for a game which meant almost nothing it was really very good. Talking about NFL action, it's been a good season with the Chiefs at last repaying my decade of patience and having a storming season, finishing 13-3 and winning the AFC West. I'm happy with the divisional title, anything more from here is a bonus. And it'd be a surprising bonus, since they'll probably make a hash of the play-offs as ever. I was going to make predictions here, but I've just realised the AFC looks very tough to call, and the NFC...hmmm...I'll go with St Louis there.

Yesterday I checked out the post-Xmas sales, and found them to be not very good on the old CD front. I bought a couple all the same, but there are few real bargains to be had there. Went to the cinema to see LOTR: TROTK and was very much impressed by the whole grandeur of the thing, although my enjoyment might have been hampered a little by not having seen the second part yet.

Today...played Pro Evolution Soccer a lot. It's been an alarmingly low-scoring season for me. I've scored 54 goals in 28 games so far, and have just one player in double figures. Tomorrow, I try to complete another treble.

I also watched High Fidelity tonight. The book was probably better, but I enjoyed it all the same. Can't be arsed doing a critical review/comparison just now though.

So that's me then. Hope all my readers are well, and if things go according to plan tomorrow, I may be able to do an annual review. Maybe. If not, I'll sort it for early next year. Don't you worry, my little lambs.

Sorry, BWT, I didn't know your birthday was on boxing day. Also, sorry to hear it was so disappointing, but, Happy Belated Birthday, anyway.

So that's why you're so clever then.

"Happy belated bday and New Year" rolled into one big football that's sent your way with lots of wishes for success in sport, among other things...
