Music From Glastonbury The Film - Various Artists (10/07/2006 - Amazon link)

Over two hours of exclusive music on two discs from Coldplay, Radiohead, Bjork, Morrissey, Faithless, The Prodigy, Babyshambles, Pulp, Chemical Brothers, Joe Strummer, Orbital and more. This is the soundtrack to the 2006 film about the legendary Glastonbury annual UK music festival. England is known for having some of the greatest music festivals in the world, with Glastonbury definitely on top of the list. Over the years, this festival has been responsible for making (and occasionally breaking) a band's career. This is the first release on the Glastonbury Phonographic Society label, to be followed by legendary live sets from the festival history.

Once again, a minor mention, but it shows that Moz is still more than worthy of talking about.

Paul Weller:

"There is a renaissance of British music out there at the moment with bands like The Kooks and The Zutons.

"When Morrissey says that British radio has got it all wrong, that's rubbish!

"What, 'cos you're not playing his latest record? That's not necessarily a bad thing is it?"

For sale some real Moz/Smiths history: two original prints signed by photographer Derek ridgers - (1)An early MORRISSEY photo. (2)THAT famous skinhead girls photo - You may have seen a copy of the fax sent by Morrissey to Derek Ridgers requesting a copy of the skinheads photo...

“A vintage, silver gelatine print of Morrissey. It was taken in 1984 in a cave under some railway lines in Lambeth, London. The photographer was well known editorial portrait photographer Derek Ridgers. It was commissioned by the British music magazine New Musical Express.

Original print of Morrissey (larger print) - eBay item #330005102631

“An original, silver gelatine print of two skinhead girls, taken during the Spring bank holiday in Brighton, England in 1979. It's quite an infamous image because it was later used by Morrissey as a backdrop on his 1992 tour. It was also used as the image for the tour programme's front cover, tour t-shirts and tour passes.”

Original print of Skinhead girls. Morrissey related(lg) - eBay item #330005106780

“They would make an excellent acquisition for any Morrissey fan. No prints of these particular images have ever been sold before, and the recipient can rest assured that they will, at this point, be the only Morrissey fan in the world to own a copy.”

I drew this painting, The Japanese Boy With The Smiths In His Side. Japanese boys should listen to The Smiths more... I imitated his posing.

Pete Yorn is currently on an acoustic tour of the U.S. in advance of the release of his new record in August. I was at the show on Saturday night in Buffalo and he played a rock version of There is a Light... with him on acoustic guitar and a full band backing. It was great... and got a very enthusiastic response from the crowd (the whole audience cheered loudly for what seemed like five minutes!)

He is a well-documented fan of the Smiths and his version of Panic is already available on the bonus disc for his first album Music for the Morning After and on a live album.

Of note is the approach that he is taking to this intimate tour. He is playing all of the hits, his most popular covers and only about three new songs... he played for two solid hours on Saturday night with a six song encore.

Admittedly his back catalogue is much smaller than The Smiths/Morrissey... but I can tell you from this experience that a full on greatest hits tour from Moz would be amazing (which goes without saying!... and this approach had the added benefit of really pumping up the crowd to check out the new material.

I know that he's touring in support of the new material... but I think this approach would work to increase sales of the new record.

UK TV: BBC2: Saturday night (July 15th): 10.35pm
This is what the link says:

The television premiere of Julien Temple's acclaimed film celebrating and documenting the history of the Glastonbury Festival. Featuring footage captured from 35 years of the festival and performances from David Bowie, Radiohead, Morrissey, Coldplay amongst many others; the film brilliantly captures the essence of this unique three day rollercoaster ride of music, madness and mud! It's the next best thing to being there!
