Two Fat Lovers b/w Dirty Old Man 'Louise' is the new single from Manchester's other punk poet and glam-pop maestro Vinny Peculiar; famously christened by UNCUT Magazine as ’the Tony Hancock of Pop’. This landmark release from Vinny is the first to feature the sublime talents of former Smiths rhythm section, Andy Rourke [the bass guitar] and Mike Joyce [the drums] who joined forces with Vinny after seeing him perform at his regular Manchester club night The Kitchen Sink Disco. The line up is completed by Ben Knott [World of Twist] on keyboards. Two Fat Lovers was recorded in Gothenburg, Sweden and produced by Spooner and Kalle Gustaffeson of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. It's a poignant and humorous take on the daily grind of love lives automated by routine but given an extra twist with it being from the angle of a couple of fatties ! Musically the single has you imagining The Go- Betweens jamming with The Kinks - infectious, driving and melodic. Vinny sings it like he lives it; the song concluding with a typically barbed yet undeniably Peculiar lyric serving as a gentle warning to the comfort eaters of tomorrow they’re going home to bacon and eggs, they can’t buy their clothes off the pegs, and as the years pass them by they get the nasty friction burn to the thigh'.
The band recently completed tours of the UK and Ireland with more dates being scheduled to tie in with the release. A new album entitled ’Kiss Me I’m a Social Worker’ is expected to hit the shelves in the summer.

Morrissey reference on 'Catterick'
posted by davidt on Wednesday May 18 2005, @11:00AM

naomi writes:
I just caught Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's new show 'Catterick' on BBC2. Not the best-spent 40 minutes of my life, but ones partially redeemed by a sequence right near the end where some very familiar guitar chords kicked in and one of the characters started miming to Satan Rejected My Soul. If my memory serves me rightly, that's the first Moz reference in a Reeves and Mortimer product since the halcyon days of Morrissey the Consumer Monkey...
