Tom Chaplin of Keane slags Moz off plus review of MEN show in Word (July, 2004)
posted by davidt on Sunday June 27 2004, @02:00PM

An anonymous person writes:

This months 'Word' magazine features an interview with Keane's Tom Chaplin in which he disses Moz a bit, and also a favourable review of the MEN Arena show.

1. Tom Chaplin of Keane - he is asked what books he is currently reading. He says he is "not a bookworm" but that he likes "music biogs". He says he has justed started 'Morrissey And Marr: The Severed Alliance'. Chaplin says he saw Moz on Jonathan Ross which "dispelled the whole myth for me a little bit". He then says Moz is now "a bit of a sad character" and says that, like the 'current-day' McCartney vis-a-vis The Beatles, "you don't connect him to the mythology". Sour grapes at Moz's comments about Keane getting to no 1 perhaps?

2. Review of MEN show - by Terry Tankard. He says that Moz's comeback has been carefully orchestrated but that Moz was "mostly magnificent" and that "his expressive use of the palm to underline those lyrical gems is complex and doubtless material for a thesis". The homecoming was, he says, "heartwarming" and were were "reminded of the unique nature of Mr Sadchester's gloriously wilful take on popular music". Not quite the "sad character" desrcibed by the Keane singer then.

Morrissey on front page of "The War Cry"
posted by davidt on Sunday June 27 2004, @02:00PM

2-J writes:

Believe it or not, Morrissey has made the front page of “The War Cry”, the newspaper sold by the Salvation Army: supposedly Britain's most popular Christian Weekly. The accompanying picture gives the flavour. The article actually doesn’t say much about Mozzer: you can read the full text here.

It starts “MACCA and Mozza, the Scissor Sisters and Sister Sledge, the Black Eyed Peas and Basement Jaxx are joining hundreds of other acts and 15,000 campers and visitors down on Worthy Farm, Pilton, for the Glastonbury Festival.

Names don’t come much more famous than Paul McCartney who will take to the Pyramid Stage today. Other established names to play the main stage are Morrissey, James Brown and, less predictably, ENO.

The photo that you can see is “amusingly” entitled “M and M, Morrissey and McCartney are playing the main stage”. Unfortunately Moz is just an excuse to get people to buy the paper because the above is all there actually is about him. The article is actually trying to convert you to Christianity – it finishes (in bold type) “God offers everlasting life to us. Will we give him a listen”. The Word on the streets is that Moz has forgiven Jesus for using his name and image to sell this newspaper.

Guardian internet article uses Moz as guinea pig
posted by davidt on Sunday June 27 2004, @02:00PM

Stan writes:

Today's Guardian (UK, June 24) features an article on the various companies offering music download services. Six are evaluated, with the crux being how much music by Morrissey you can buy off each!

The article, by Ashley Norris, has the bi-headline 'With download services, new music is only a click away, but which server is best for you, and which carries the most tracks by Morrissey?'

The piece comes with the 'Tommy-Gun' picture with the caption 'Napster - So much to answer for'. The reviews each have a 'Moz Watch' section

I support Morrissey's response
Morrissey could have replied differently
I am undecided
