I've just seen on "The Void" (UK Channel 4 Teletext music pages, page 353) that Morrissey has won the "Icon" award from Mojo magazine; kinda like a lifetime achievement thing. It was given him by Noel Gallagher, who repeated the old story about Moz asking him to go shoplifting with him. Morrissey briefly thanked "Sir Noel" before departing. ---

Link to HotPress article from a post on the general discussion board by Almodis:
Excerpt:
One theory that's being put forward is that the festival has suffered as a result of the backlash against its co-headliner, Morrissey.
"Morrissey announcing that 'Bush should have died, not Reagan' at his Dublin Castle show hasn't gone down well with the media here," proffers an American music industry source.
"You can get away with a lot of things in the States, but wishing the President dead isn't one of them. It's hard enough selling concert tickets without magazines and radio stations refusing to give your star turn coverage."

The New York Times brings up the lack of draw an act like Morrissey would have in the Midwest.
Lollapalooza Tour Canceled Amid Weak Concert Season - NY Times
Excerpt:
"How well is Morrissey going to do in the Midwest?" he said. "I wouldn't venture to guess. The problem is that there is just not a really large interest in alternative music. What was called alternative in the 90's was exploding with something new, with Pearl Jam and Nirvana. It was exciting stuff."
Mr. Hurwitz said many of his concerts, including those by younger acts like Evanescence and Three Doors Down, were selling well.
"They tried to pull together Morrissey and Sonic Youth," he said, on an alternative bill. "But there are not enough people who care about it."

excerpt from an MTV article on Lollapalooza and what the headlining artists are doing about the cancellation...
The headliners, most of whom were using Lollapalooza to promote recent albums, were left scrambling to set something up in the wake of the tour's demise.
Morrissey, who is currently in London for the two-day Meltdown Festival, may try to fill his summer with sporadic dates in the States, though a full-scale U.S. tour is expected this fall. The same goes for PJ Harvey, though she has a few European festivals to pepper her summer months with. Sonic Youth, who already had several dates scheduled in between their Lollapalooza gigs, will try to add more to their itinerary.

The lead singer from Muse was interviewed in this week's NME and was asked who he's looking forward to seeing most at Glasto: "Morrissey's top of the list. He's just different to anyone else who's ever made music".
Maybe that will make the Muse fans a little more tolerant!
