NME: Michael Stipe says that when he plays Glastonbury, he walks around the fields with his top off and nobody recognises him.
Well, they do but, because he's got no shirt on, they don't really want to go near him. That was a joke.
NME: You should give it a try.
Michael is terribly nice. With his shirt on. No, it's not something I'd try, really, I'm far too diffident.

This week's NME features (again) a number of Smiths/Moz related items. Amid a plethora of references to Moz in their reviews section (they reference Moz when reviewing The Bees and The Milk And Honey Band among others) there is a short review of the 'Hulmerist' and 'Malady Lingers On' DVDs as well as a review of a Smiths-tribute album on which various emo bands perform covers of Smiths songs. Here are the details:
1. 'Hulmerist'/'Malady Lingers On' DVDs - these are reviewed by Rob Fitzpatrick. 'Hulmerist' gets a 7 out of 10 - Fitzpatrick says the videos for 'Everyday Is Like Sunday', 'November Spawned A Monster' and 'Interesting Drug' are good but says 'Ouija Board, Ouija Board' is "still terrible". 'Malady Lingers On' fares less well (5 out of 10). Fitzpatrick claims that the footage is bad and that 'Sing Your Life' and 'We Hate It When Our Friends....' are "unloved" Moz songs. He says that 'Tomorrow' is still great though.
2. Smiths tribute - by various emo bands (Hundred Reasons, Million Dead etc). The NME give this ONE out of 10!!!! Oh dear! But fear not, they don't have anything bad to say about The Smiths. In fact, its obvious that the reviewer reveres them. His criticism is levelled at those performing the covers for failing to grasp the "wit, eccentricity and humour" of the originals. Million Dead's cover of 'Girlfriend In A Coma' is described as "utterly dire" and, apparently, Hundred Reasons ruin 'How Soon Is Now?'. Another band whose name I forget "butchers" 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'.
Elsewhere in NME there is a letter from a Gene fan praising Moz's compilation CD from last week - and rightly so!!!

OutKast's Big Boi, Morrissey and Counting Crows will grace Chicago's House of Blues next month as part of American Express' Blue Jam Sessions. Net proceeds from the July 15-17 shows will benefit music education programs in Chicago-area public schools.
Big Boi and Sleepy Brown will perform on July 15, followed by Counting Crows, the Graham Colton Band and Jem on July 16. Morrissey will headline on July 17.
American Express cardholders can purchase tickets beginning Sunday (June 27) for $55. Local fans can also win admission via radio station contests, while Westwood One/Premiere Radio Network will sponsor national contests for trips to Chicago and tickets.
Morrissey's schedule was jolted with this morning's cancellation of the Lollapalooza tour, which he was to headline beginning July 14 in Auburn, Wash. A spokesperson had no information about possible further North American appearances this summer.

It came in "Mais!", Folha's high culture appendix, along with the original lyrics and a Morrissey wallpaper. Here's mr. Ascher translation:
