Photos from the Oct. 20 New York City signing
posted by davidt on Tuesday October 24 2000, @09:00AM

Photos (10 pages, 404 total) from last Friday's in-store in New York City have been uploaded. Again, I tried to get just about everyone but I did miss a few. Sorry if I missed you or screwed up your picture in some other way.

Thanks to everyone for posting their stories regarding the two in-stores, I greatly enjoyed reading them. If you have a web page with stories and/or photos, let me know and I will include it in the in-store summary page.

Regarding these in-store photos -- I've gotten many requests for purchase, print out, enlargements, etc. These were all taken with a digital camera so the pictures uploaded to the site are all I have. Just right-click (or the equivalent) on the photo and save it to your hard or floppy disk. I am not familiar with printing out digital photos but I'm sure there are places that do that kind of thing, aren't there?

Thank you so much for the pics David.

As a dedicatd Moz fan I would like to offer my services to all you lucky fans that got to see him in New York and LA. I live near San Francisco and was hoping Moz would roll in here as well, but that's okay.

I will print your picture from the digital shot for only the cost of the photo paper, ink, and postage. I will work out how much it will cost, it shouldn't be much. Feel free to contact me about getting it printed. jphegley@adobe.com or 408-536-5103. I have to say that a print will look much better and much more like a photo if I print it at a smaller size(like 3 by 5) any bigger will start looking fuzzy and "digital".

      It'd be my pleasure!

A sincere and heartfelt thanks to david for making this speacial occasion even more memorable. That day was quite stressful as I had to fly to a wedding that night and I was a bit worried we wouldn't make it, but everything worked out. Personally I felt the whole event, though terribly disorganized, was extremely pleasurable and the staff were about as nice as can be, at least to my group. They(and the people in line) must have had to answer "Who are you waiting to see?" more times than we care to admit. Morrissey couldn't have been nicer. The man has amazing eyebrows!!! I have been berated by so many other swirling, sniveling, extremely little shallow minded individuals for not keeping my "kool", and so on...., that my feelings on the subject matter have gotten increasingly and constantly intensified. I am TENACIOUS, especially regarding Morrisey, and whatever "scene" I caused, oh well, it was completely out of my control. I had literally no control regarding my psychological state of mind and actions. Morrissey 's presence while standing right next to him, caused feelings that I never even knew existed in my heart, to come out for the first and probably only time I can only explain it by saying they must have been hidden in my "ID". Encountering Morrissey provoked these beyond powerful emotions and feelings to surface, no other person or situation in my life had ever done this. I just can't explain it, so I'm going to shut up, as anyone reading this besides myself could probably care less. Anyway Thank You Morrissey again wherever you are.

Fact is, UGLY PEOPLE EXIST EVERYWHERE!! I saw some in these photos. Did you see that one fat guy getting his West Ham shirt signed? Dude looked like Norm from Cheers! Besides NY, what are you smacking LA for? The Big Apple is also home to the queen of all fat pigs...Rosie O'Donut! There are alot of ugly fans in LA, there are alot of them in NY, and there are also alot of them in the rest of the world. Get over it!

I like the attitude of the NY fans. They have their own style (LA does too but it is more evident in NY), and they don't get as frantic as some of us LA fans do. To all of you claiming that Moz remembered you and security wouldn't "let" him sign things or take pictures, GET A LIFE! First of all, Morrissey can't possibly remember everyone he meets, especially if it was when he was driving away and he just managed to see your hand waving at him. Secondly, as it was stated before, the no camera rule was "per artist request" Do you think he would actually be able to sit in front of a flashing light three or four hundred times without going blind!? The pics David took didn't involve Morrissey looking straight into the lens each and every single time. Same goes for the sigs. Do you think he actually wants to sign the dvd, your CD booklet, and that memo book you made especially for him? Nor does he want to take home all of five hundred love letters you wrote to him. Look, Moz is human like the rest of us, and the guards were just doing their job. Of course if you manage to sneak one past the guy, Morrissey is not going to look like a jerk and say no. He wants to please his fans and not go crazy while doing it. If you can't understand that, then try and use the same reasoning as to why he hates it when people camp out in front of his house.

While looking at all these shots however, I couldn't help thinking of this really naff/yucky pop song sung by some Canadian female singer back in the 70's, I believe to be Helen ready that goes like this:

"From L.A to New York, from New York to L.A,

And livin' my life just to live and be free,
                                                                  Yeah! that's meeee-ahhh,
From L.A to New York, from New York to L.A"

Yes, truly a dire pop song with execrable lyrics yet strangely prophetic concerning Moz the God and his DVD signings in the year 2000!

While looking spritely and chirpy for the L.A signings, I couldn't help thinking that Our Steven, looked rather wan and pale in New York, perhaps suffering from psychic/emotional exhaustion as a result of being a magnet for so many of his followers/disciples and ultimately the saddos whose lives will eternally revolve around this 'major event' in their life.

Personally I don't think people should meet their idols, in the long term it could damage your mental health, as some of the postings in here in relation to meeting Mozzer in New York and LA would testify. Furthermore, he will never ever remember you, and although the moment may be ever so precious to you, to him the entire signing event is purely a promotional/marketing tool to sell, sell and sell lots of product. To him, meeting you people is Hard Work, and ultimately a truly forgettable experience! He's going to lay in bed for the rest of year after all the sheer drudgery over the past few weeks.

I had an opportunity to meet Morrissey in the late 80's, when he passed me in the street in London. However I was sensitive enough to know then, that to be liked and befriended by Steven is perhaps akin to entering the pearly gates of Heaven, but to be spurned by him is perhaps to experience the hell of eternal damnation. I glanced at him briefly and walked on! Although regretting my decision for the rest of the day, I now have to say in retrospect, that I am proud of the remarkable restraint and maturity I showed that day, considering how much I worship him!

Although I love him dearly, I never, ever want to meet him! Hell and Heaven or not for me, I just want to get on with the drudgery of living on Planet Earth, does anyone out there understand what I mean? To meet him is to be offered hope, and I've gotten rather use to things on the hopeless side, the last thing I want is the merest suggestion that my dreams could come through.

Last year I bought a ticket to one of his London concerts, and needless to say I didn't go. The more I ignore him the closer he gets. Ignoring and avoiding one's idol means having complete control over the situation, I completely recommend this approach. An air of detachment is always becoming I say.

He's a martyr to his celebrity that man, and knows when it comes to pulling power no one, and I mean no one, has the queue forming capacity that he alone. If someone came up to Johnny Marr and asked him for fifty pence, he'd take it as a compliment, a sign of his never waning popularity!

Of course people turn up when the Eltons, and the Madonnas, and the Mariahs do a signing, but how often do their FANS ask for a kiss and cuddle? Old MaDogga would rather urinate on you then give you the time of day, and Elton John would probably ask you for the glossy folicles off your scalp in exchange for an air kiss from him, personally. The ever naked Mariah Carey would ask you for your warm coat, as she constantly seems to be shivering both on stage and off, hence her never ending caterwauling. No one around has charisma like Morrissey!

For those who survived meeting Morrissey and having their shirt/tits/wrists/back/cd's/vd's/dvd's/arse/neck/b ook/arm signed by the Charismatic One, I envy you your short lived joy and pleasant memory, but to those who did NOT survive meeting the The Gifted One, god bless

I was there and had an overall great experience. I am the guy w/ the pink shirt towards the bottom of page 5 of pix. Moz was mostly warm and friendly towards me and most other people, given the circumstances (notice the heavy presence of security.) As I approached him, I noticed him yawning, and asked him if he was at all tired. He said he "actually felt very good" and seemed to be enjoying the moment. And that was about it, for my less than 8 seconds of meeting him. But really, the most exciting part was just being there and watching him interact with dedicated fans. Also, I managed to take about 3 good pictures when it was all over. That part was incredible, Morrissey actually walked (with security) right thru the store past the T-shirt racks towards the elevators. At this point, ther were about 50 fans still there. Experiencing this was actually better than "meeting" him. I just want to say thank you to Morrissey, Morrissey-solo.com, and the really cute girls I saw or met while in line. Thanks again, especially to this site for informing all of us. Cheers, Mike Dodd.
