"Morrissey, el legendario" - interview at Zona 247
posted by davidt on Wednesday July 05 2000, @09:00AM

UPDATE (July 11): This interview never took place and is completely made up. Please read Morrissey's response to the article.<

This must have occured around the Latin American tour back in March. Any volunteers for a translation to English? Please email me. From Alfredge:

I found this very interesting interview at a big Argentinian internet music/book distribution. It is in Spanish, some interesting notes are in it! Enjoy!

my spanish is poor but I got that he won*t be coming back to England any time soon because it´*s a "dead society".

And does he really say he finished writing a novel???

Oh, and I refuse to believe that he*s listening to O-fecking-ASIS in his kitchen. Let them be from Manchester or not.

In the interview at the end (held Mexico in a disco-at one point they start putting some dance music and he says "My God, just like in England"- around midnight right after the concert) he says:
    - He wanted to tour Latin America because he's always been fascinated by it, wanted to know what was going on around there, he owes a lot of his stage persona to El Vez (ironic laugh there)
    - He finished writing a novel long ago. Could get it published this year, but no definite news about that yet (!)
    - Not having a deal is not the main problem, the really bad thing is, literally "I have no new songs, so I just can't tell when there'll be another record out". Now take that! (that's my own comment!)
    - The only thing he's more or less sure about regarding the record is he likes the idea of releasing it via the internet. Apart of that he doesn't even know what songs it'll have...
    - He's listening to, literally "Prefab Sprout and Tricky, always; Bowie, sometimes ; and Oasis, why not, if they're the best band out of Manchester excluding The Smiths"
    - The Smiths are never to reunite, precisely because they were a great band.

He ends: "besides, do marvelous things have to last?"
