After too many years in the shadows the band known as Kitchens of Distinction are about to release a comeback album. Still nameless with cover art to be chosen and no live gigs cause of singer Patrick Fitzgerald's illness, the members describe the album as a modern version of KOD or sounding like something between their old albums "Death of cool" and "Cowboys and aliens".
The news of the album having been finally mixed came on Monday here:
Jeff Mangum has teased us with solo shows for long enough. Neutral Milk Hotel are actually, no-bullshit reuniting and heading out on tour in 2013-- 15 years after their last shows together. Only a handful have been announced so far, but apparently there is "more to come," according to the NMH website. Dates below.
Update: We have confirmed that this touring lineup will consist of Mangum, Scott Spillane, Julian Koster, and Jeremy Barnes, the lineup that came together following the release of On Avery Island in 1996.
Following the release of 1998's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and its subsequent support tour, Neutral Milk Hotel went on hiatus. Aside from a 2001 live album, a 2002 album of Bulgarian music, and a handful of live appearances, Jeff Mangum became indie rock's resident recluse for over a decade.
After playing a couple shows in 2010, Mangum fully resurfaced in 2011 and 2012 with several solo tours, a set for Occupy Wall Street, festival appearances, and a Neutral Milk Hotel box set.
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the charity Children of the Blue Sky.

<a href="http://exystence.net/blog/2013/04/25/kirsty-maccoll-desperate-character-1981-remastered-2012/"...

http://exystence.net/blog/2013/04/25...mastered-2012/

Kirsty MacColl‘s 1981 debut album finally takes its CD bow. Full of charm, humour and her quirky ear for what makes a great pop song, there s a diversity and eclecticism at work here that brings together the cheeky pop of the Top 20 hit … Chip Shop…, the swing jazz of The Real Ripper, the kinky reggae of the Hollies Just One Look, the feisty new wave energy of Clock Goes Round and the faux-country cover of George Jones’ He Thinks I Still Care. Perhaps what makes Desperate Character still sound so vibrant though are the sweeping, sumptuous 60s recreations of See That Girl, Until The Night and Hard To Believe. Kirsty takes the songs beyond parody, particularly See That Girl, one of the best songs she ever wrote.

She also tackles, tongue in cheek, a Shangri-La’s style Teenager In Love, but this a long way removed from Frankie Lymon’s paean; here Kirsty is nursing a tequila and mourning a lost love as she sings in character of a ‘lonely, alcoholic teenager in love!’ Ahead lay more hit singles and acclaimed albums such as Kite, Electric Landlady and Titanic Days; a permanent voice on Christmas airwaves thanks to that enduring Fairytale of New York; parenthood and a glittering second career as as a session singer for the likes of U2, the Smiths and Talking Heads. But for many, the first appreciation of this special singer/songwriter came courtesy of Desperate Character and this release provides an opportunity to refresh memories and make fresh introductions to the one and only Kirsty MacColl.

<a href="http://exystence.net/blog/2013/04/25/va-a-concert-for-kirsty-maccoll-2013/"...

Following on from their excellent studio album reissue campaign in October 2012, Salvo Music released A Concert for Kirsty MacColl on 18 February 2013. This CD release captures a concert performance from October 12th 2010, when fans and friends packed London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire to hear Kirsty’s fellow artists celebrate 12 of her greatest songs. Performers such as Ellie Goulding, Amy MacDonald, Billy Bragg, Andrea Corr and Alison Moyet helped to celebrate the life and music of Kirsty MacColl.
Recorded almost a decade after MacColl’s shocking death, there’s no doubting the sincerity and love of the participants in this celebratory show. MacColl’s voice was one of the most distinctive and seductive in pop history, to the point where it’s almost uncomfortable to listen to others taking on her fine tunes. Ellie Goulding’s breathy Soho Square sounds way too flimsy, Amy MacDonald’s strident bark reduces Tread Lightly and (especially) Fairytale Of New York to bad karaoke, while Andrea Corr’s default setting sugariness all but cuts the knackers off They Don’t Know.
1. Soho Square (Ellie Goulding)
2. Walking Down Madison (Alison Moyet)
3. Tread Lightly (Amy MacDonald)
4. They Don’t Know (Andrea Corr)
5. In These Shoes (Catherine Tate)
6. A New England (Billy Bragg)
7. Dear John (Eddi Reader with Boo Hewerdine)
8. Head (Alison Moyet)
9. Angel (Floating Around My House) (Brian Kennedy)
10. Days (Brooke Supple)
11. Fairytale of New York (Dave Duffy & Amy MacDonald)
12. There’s A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He’s Elvis (Phill Jupitus with Boz Boorer and Phil Rambow)
