• Gisela - cover of "There Is A Light..."

I bought Gisela's album "So Cold" many years ago and really liked it, and for some reason I was searching her out this evening to see whether she'd ever recorded anything else. I found her site here:

Not only has she indeed recorded a bunch of albums (free to download) but there's a cover of There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (link towards bottom or go straight here:

i appreciate it when other artists cover smiths/morrissey tunes, but this one is not one i can listen to more than once. midi background music and so so singing... one of the greatest tunes ruined...

Crikey! That's easily one of the most ill advised covers I've ever heard, and I've done a couple in my time. The backing is straight from guitarbackingtracks.com and the addition of the "AM radio" effect on the "To die by your side" vocal is just plain silly. I don't normally have an opinion on fellow musicians (sour grapes syndrome) but this is eerie for all the wrong reasons.
I covered this many moons ago and still (very) occasionally do it live, but I don't put it on-line for sacrilegious reasons.

Thanks for unearthing this though, quite an eye opener.
