Oh god. What does this mean for the Manchester gig? I can't even bear to think about it

Interesting; I hope Mr. Walker is okay.

I wonder if ticket sales were not what he had hoped? This is typical Morrissey protocol--wait until the day of a show to cancel. They were off for a few days; I am sure if it had been an injury or pulled muscle, they could have canceled sooner--in consideration of those who travel.

If he's suffering from a pulled muscle - which is an injury - he should be okay by Manchester. If it's torn, though, I don't know how long that takes to heal. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery!

Feck sake, best be fit for Manchester.

Ummm... I don't know, maybe because it's Portugal, there might not be a competent basist to just plug in for the night. But, I would bet that in London, Manchester, LA, or NY, that there are any number of Morrissey/Smiths cover bands with musicians good enough and familiar enough with the music to step in for the night. Generally I'd say that this is just Morrissey handing it to the paying customers again. I mean it's not like Mick has to soldier on without Keith for the night, and I'm sure you can find a basist most nights, no matter how integral a part of the band your basist happens to be. But, given that it's a somewhat exotic location, and it might be difficult to bring someone on at short notice, I can give Morrissey a pass on this one. As for Solomon; speedy recovery and feel better soon.

I work in the medical field....a torn muscle can take a couple of weeks to heal depending on the extent of the injury and if the injured person actually gives it time to heal and follows doctors orders to rest, a bit hard if you are on the road like Solomon has been. Back injuries are tricky and are a common complaint in a doctors office. I wish Solomon the BEST and hope for a speedy recovery!

How do you know when the injury happened?

He didn't come because it didn't sold-out. There were still 1200 out of 2500, he always likes a full house. I guess he was put out by that, but you know people in portugal don't really have an interest in music.

Canceled in the same day.
Bullshit... No consideration for the fans.
He has more respect for animals then for people.
Fan´s travelled from Açores by plane in the same day for what?

Morrissey talks about Madonna and others, at least they share respect.

Sad day and no consideration and respect for Morrissey. The concert was in 3 hours from now. Canceled???

No respect...

I think you'll find you're wrong. I disitnctly remember "Keef" injured his finger in 1990 and some UK gigs were postponed. And I know cos I was there

IT was the one that nearly got away - and didn't they know it. Coming so soon after two Wembley cancellations - casualties of the much-talked-about tricky finger - the Cardiff gig was a touch-and-go affair up to the 11th hour.

The rock-starved audience realised how lucky they were to be granted an audience by the Rolling Stones, and pulled no punches showing their appreciation.

But every bit of praise was justified.

A dozen jets of fire exploded across the length of the stage, trailing with them those first spine-tingling chords of the band's favourite set opener, Start Me Up, startling the mass of sunburned bodies into one huge bobbing sea.

Apologising for his troublesome finger, he coaxed a burst of laughter from the audience which rippled around the stadium. It was clear from then on that he was forgiven.

Jagger, determined to retain the spotlight, was at his theatrical best, strutting as good as he ever had throughout his 30-year career, and showing stamina that an athlete half his age would be proud of.

which began to reveal itself when Honky Tonk Woman blasted from the multi-megawatt speakers.

Right on cue, Ruby and Angie - two 100ft-high inflatable Honky Tonk Women - puffed themselves up into full view, one on each side of the stage.

without doubt, the most ludicrous comment to appear in this forum for a long, long time.

No - throughout the performing arts, cancellations due to illness are always made at the very last moment in the hope that the show CAN go ahead. It's just the pompous, self-deluded narcissists on this site who think that everything should be arranged around THEIR schedules.

I love it when he blames a cancellation on a band member when in all likelihood he just wanted an extended few days off. Just like when Boz had visa trouble last year and the band all had the flu in Miami a few years back.

If it's true and only half the tickets sold it obvious he has cancelled and wants the band to be fresh for Manchester and Edinburgh, these are more important concerts

Or perhaps he says that when there is actually something wrong with the band. It's a crazy and radical thought, I know.
