Article: "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" cover by Joan As Police Woman on "The Separate" compilation

ACTON writes:

Setanta records have released their final ‘various artists’ record, entitled ‘The Separate’. According to The Irish Times: ‘the standout track is clearly Joan as Police Woman’s beautiful take on The Smiths’ This Night Has Opened My Eyes. Swapping Johnny Marr’s guitar riff for forlorn piano, it’s a stark, melancholic ballad that captures the heartache of the original succinctly and sympathetically’. The Cure’s ‘close to me’ is also covered.

I really like Joan As Police Woman. She's mentioned liking Morrissey and her band Black Beetle opened for Morrissey once.

Sounds like a good covers album, thanks for sharing this info. For reasons such as this Moz solo is such a good site.

Martha Wainwright is on this album?!?!? What?!?! I got to watch her and her brother in Brooklyn this year. God I love her Family. I know this comment isn't really Morrissey-esque, but Morrissey is my #1 and Rufus Wainwright is my #2. Anyhow JAPW does a great cover but my favorite still has to be Headmaster Ritual by Radiohead.

xx a charming Smiths Fan xx
