Johnny Marr: 'I'll reform The Smiths when the government steps down' - NME.com

Excerpt:

When asked if the band's enduring popularity had ever made him tempted to speak to Smiths' frontman Morrissey about the prospect of a reunion, he replied: "I don't not speak to him, because that implies a certain standoff or whatever.

"He's doing his thing and I'm doing mine, and we go through periods of time when we're in communication and at times when we're not," he continued. "I'm not sure he wants to communicate, so I'll just carry on doing what I'm doing, and live my life and be a musician."

He went on to add: "We won't be reforming this week. Maybe if the government stepped down. If this government stepped down, I'll reform the band. How's that? That's a fair trade, isn't it? I think the country would be better off, don't you? I'll do it if the coalition steps down."

Excerpt:

Johnny Marr received the Best Re-Issue Award for The Smiths Complete at the 2012 NME Awards at O2 Academy Brixton, London on 29 February, which was presented to him by Bez of Happy Mondays. The Smiths eight albums were remastered by master engineer Frank Arkwright and assisted by Johnny Marr, who accepted the award on behalf of The Smiths, saying he was “really happy people still liked listening to the songs” as he really enjoyed making them. The other nominations were Manic Street Preachers for National Treasures, Nirvana for Nevermind, Primal Scream for Screamadelica and The Rolling Stones for Some Girls.

Johnny presented Noel Gallagher with the Godlike Genius Award describing Noel as “an institution…Noel makes (songwriting) look easier than it really is – the mark of a true genius.” As for The Smiths? “We never won many awards so it would be nice to one day, one day….” Earlier he remarked “I think he’s a bit young to win it, but it’s well deserved.”

Sounds like Morrissey is ok with a reunion and Marr is the one who is Marr against it...

It's completely the other way around. Marr has never explicitly refused/denied the possibility of a reunion...Morrissey said he'd rather eat his own testicles than do it.

Morrissey is suing the NME and JM collects an award from them, what sort of friend is that? Johnny Marr killed The Smiths and now he is hammering the nails into the coffin. The Smiths will never reform, Morrissey doesn't need them, as this GREAT site says 'Morrissey-Solo'.

Ps Sorry, I meant SHIT site, my mistake.

Yeah, I know. Should have written "Marr makes it sound like..."

As if Marr has any kind of influence on Morrissey. Johnny Blagger!
