Update 2/10, 9:40AM PT:

Marco writes:

São Paulo now is confirmed to go on sale on http://www.livepass.com.br. The original venue scheduled, Espaço das Américas, was confirmed to hold the concert.

Note - this contradicts the previous story that stated the venue had changed.

9 February 2012

Morrissey will play in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday, March 7, at Chevrolet Hall. This will replace the show at Porto Alegre which became logistically impossible. Also, Morrissey regrets that projected dates in New Zealand have once again been scrapped due to poor offers from local promoters.

"Poor offers from local promoters"? Huh?

Woah, "Poor offers from local promoters", forgive me, but my arse. I'm not in the loop, but I wonder what offers were made to local promoters. I can't answer on behalf of those promoters, but I'm sure they would have gladly accepted. New Zealand and Auckland has had a good run of overseas artists and bands play here. New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Ryan Adams, Real Estate, Camera Obscura, The Cults, The Horrors, Fiest. All artists which have been here in the last 18 months. Plenty of room for Morrissey.

To my knowledge the news of the NZ tour was never announced in any New Zealand magazines, newspapers or on any of the websites that I visit. Yet due to the power of social networking, after the news of the tour was broken on TTY and here the news spread like wildfire. Morissey would have easily sold out venues in Auckland. He could have got two gigs in.

Oh sod it, I'm just pissed off... Give it time and I'll find out what I can from those in the know in Auckland.

Thanks King. By God, you better have a large single malt before the gig for me and then get right down the front.

f***ing hell ... poor NZ :( and I'm assuming this means definitely no Australian leg now either. I was figuring NZ may have been a lock since it was mentioned but Aus never getting a mention MAY have been because things weren't quite finalised enough to announce yet. But looks like that was actually the way it was for NZ, for if Aus didn't even get any mention then we must have been on the outs from the begining.

But that's BS, like Librarian said, I'm sure Moz could have made some decent money from ticket sales in a place like Auckland. International Bands are touring NZ/Aus more than ever before and doing really well. I don't know what he was expecting and I'd love to know what these "poor offers" were.

Hey Pokey,

It's marred. Looks like we've been screwed yet again. I had a feeling NZ was about to be tanked. I think this is what happened when NZ and OZ were rumored to be included on the tour a coupla years ago. Remember when we were going to be the first country to kick the tour off? Plus when I asked Morrissey back in 09 in Berlin when he handed me the mic "When are you coming to Australia?" and he said"Next question" his tone came off as if it's been a complicated affair trying to get there. I can't believe he can announce New Zealand and not Australia but what's even more astounding is yet again announcing coming to this part of the world and pulling the same shit! If one more American complains about Moz not coming to their city I'll cave their fkn heads in :)

marred.

I would like to know what was really meant by “poor offers from local promoters”. If it is alluding to venues, the promoters really cannot do too much, about what is available. The Bruce Mason Centre on the North Shore can hold 1,200 (estimate from LOF) seated. Good enough for the Fleet Foxes who returned to this venue last month. The Auckland Town Hall, around 800 (estimate), standing. There is no way Morrissey could have filled out the Vector Arena, which seats around 12,000.

For projected ticket sales, this is Morrissey. His shows in New Zealand would have sold out. Any promoter worth his or her salt knows they are talking ticket gold here. So to say, “poor offers” is a very misguided statement. For a promoter to think in advance that ticket sales would be sluggish would clearly be delusional. The demand in Auckland alone was strong from talking to fans who I know. Add in an Australian contingent coming over and you’ve got two full nights worth of performances.

My suspicions were growing as the silence around venues and dates were not forthcoming. This probably in all likelihood was the final chance for Australia and New Zealand to see him perform here. I really doubt that there will be another opportunity. This mini world selected countries tour is starting to shape up as his final tour, apart from UK and US dates maybe in the future. It really does feel personal to be snubbed like this. Does he not like Antipodeans?

Maybe its the thought of watching two-year-old episodes of Coronation Street being aired on TV in a hotel room in Auckland is just to despairing for him. Your loyalties as a Morrissey fan are always being tested with him these days.

Does the whole bit about "poor offers" from promoters mean they failed to stump up enough cash to offer Morrissey prior to playing ? As opposed to,say, the split on ticket /venue income afterwards ? Anyhow, as Librarian noted, Morrissey can't keep touring forever and this jaunt did seem likely to be his final ,at least in these parts. Bad luck us.

Yes, I've thought it could be about the cash offer as well. I didn't take much notice of the Big Day Out, but Kanye West wanted five million to play on the circuit. I'd like to know how much Morrissey would be asking for. And with New Zealanders being a bit more reluctant to open their wallets at present, this could be a credible factor in him not coming here.

I've heard from some Australian promoters in the past who were just not interested in a Morrissey tour when it was put to them. It doesn't surprise me that the problem might be more with promoters lack of interest, and hence making a decent offer than Morrissey's side of things.

without wishing to sound too indie 80s i was listening to this before

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9hGWaCBb0Q

and holly shit will sergeant was an awesome guitar player .. i remember having sex in a university toilet (no not by myself) and being distracted (ok she wasn't that great) by graffiti on the wall that had said something like "the three greatest guitar players.." and someone had scrawled OUT jimi hendrix, robert plant and someone else, and written instead "johnny marr, will sergeant, and peter buck" and i was like yeah man.. that is so true...

replace jessie with will sergeant? no?

i pressed flush on the toilet and the girl was really annoyed!

do you think jessie is scrawled somewhere on toilets? i think that is the highest praise...

Marred - oh I agree, too many Americans complaining they may have to travel 2 states to see him or that he hasn't been there in TWO YEARS!! Or something. This sucks for NZ and Aus and I really can't see him ever getting out here again now. The "poor offers" were probably fine but he found a spelling mistake in the offer letter or something and decided to pull out. The fact it's happened twice for us now takes the cake, I don't think I'll believe he's coming until I see him on stage myself as we all know what happened in 1991 even.

Yes and if you add 1991 then it's now 3 times he's pulled out. It's now coming up to 10 years since I saw him at the Enmore theater here in Sydney and 20 years since I had tickets to see him leave before playing at the Horden Pavilion. Sad state of affairs really. I don't think the promoters and venue owners are to blame at all. It's more Morrissey's fault than anything. He has treated this part of the world like a smelly old uncle no one wants to visit. Now ironically he's become the smelly old uncle I can't be bothered visiting. It's back to listening to his records and reminiscing about the gigs I have seen. Plus he's getting old now and I'd say the only way I'll see him live now is if I happen to be in one of the countries he's touring.... oh and he doesn't cancel the gig :)

Simple solution: Kill Uncle.

Or move.

Perhaps the thought of visiting an uncultured prisoner's colony prior to his court case and then a sheepshagger's paradise was too much for his middle-aged vegetarian ways.

He hasn't played Wales in nearly 6 years neither. And Aussies have had and elk still have ample oppurtunity to see him. When they do their national service working in pubs in London.
