Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce interviews in The Guardian

Another lame, not-too-subtle hint from the hired guns still hoping for the impossible: a reunion.

What was Mike Joyce's crime again? Oh yes, claiming he was owed money and after a forensic examination of the facts having a court agree with him.

Im so glad mike got what he deserved from that money grabbing bastard morrissey. smiths is dead.

Rodent faced Joyce is a decent drummer, but that's all. Ratty has made his entire living out of his association with Morrissey and Marr, yet he sued them in court for being underpaid. To this day Ratty is still being thrown scraps of cheese, from all over the place, just because he was lucky enough to be Morrissey and Marr's drummer.

People you are so easily manipulated. Morrissey told you that Joyce was a pig...and you agreed. reality is that Joyce was a core member of the Smiths...Morrissey refused to pay him. Joyce did what I would do: go after his assets given that Morrissey stole his money.

If this was your brother/ mother or you...you would take the jerk to court. I still swing by here once and a while...but I realize that Morrissey basically died after Vauxhall. And now he is a silly goof with bad hair dancing around to b grade songs that you all hold up as icons of art.

I know everyone hates Marr, but he is a bonafide guitar hero. And given his age he is doing what I would do: guest appearances, writing great songs like Dashboard by MM, remastering the smiths and basically living a dignified life. Morrissey on the other hand is a lost soul thinking he is a super star when in reality he is a lounge act.

But then again...when i was a smiths fan - like all of you now, i had low self esteem. Good luck to you losers. Soon you will be able to see Morrissey play at the local In/ Out burger - IN UNIFORM!! At the drive through window with Jesse (aka cheap guitarist) singing through the microphone!!!!

That's nice.

[...]... , yet he sued them in court for being underpaid.[...]

And won. And that's the point. He proved his claim to a standard high enough to convince a court. I don't know Mike Joyce, but I do know I'd sue if I thought I was owed that significant sum too, and so would you. I think I am right in saying he is still owed money by one of the litigants. Who would like to hazard a guess at which one? Answers on a postcard to...

I feel contrained to come to the defence of Moz here.
First of all, whether or not Joyce is a bastard or otherwise simply does not matter. It's personal stuff and neither you nor I know the reality (although I grant you the courts support a certain POV). But this has nothing whatsoever to do with his music. You attempt to conflate the issues which is cheap.
Whatever the truth regarding Joyce (and I really don't care either way), your opinion about his music is another matter and one of taste.
That Morrissey is one the greatest recording artists ever is my opinion and is as valid as yours.

Having been one of the few who have actually heard Smiths session tapes ( when they were being gone over for Rock Band and Guitar Hero use) I can assure you Rourke and Joyce were excellent players and absolutely key to the art and success of the Smiths.
The eye opener for me was how average a player Marr is. Especially when you realize what seems like one guitar part on record is actually four or five Johnny's playing at the same time .

True. Marr is the master of multi track guitar parts. John Squire is too. Frankly that is why it is not wise for most of us to believe in the magic. He might be an average player - doubt it - but he is a songwriter. He wrote those 5 tracks to fit together magically.

It really isn't.

Well... you can confirm that Morrissey did not pay what was considered reasonable. That is a fact. But then Morrissey thinks the judge is the devil. But you would woundn't you if you had to sell you Jag to pay Joyce. Who wants to sell the Jag - LEATHER seats and all?

Actually the real genius of the guitar arranging was John Porter early on and Stephen Street a bit later.
