Prince, RIP - true-to-you.net
24 April 2016

Although a long-serving vegan and a strong advocate of the abolition of the abattoir, neither of these points was mentioned in the one hundred television reports that I witnessed yesterday as they covered the enchanted life and sad death of Prince. The points were not mentioned because they are identified as expressions against e$tabli$hment interests, therefore we, mere galley slaves, aren't allowed to know.
Prince has influenced the world more than is suspected, and somehow the life of his music is just beginning, and he would be thanked not only by humans but also animals for living his lyrical life as he did. Humans, you see, are not the world.
Meanwhile, on the same day that Prince melts away in physical form, London and England remain two very different countries, and in London the news media (under tyrannized instructions from Buckingham Palace) are informing the world that Her Royal Slyness is celebrating her 90th birthday, and we are assured that all of the United Kingdom is celebrating a monarch who has "served" (that is, served herself, not the people) for over 60 years. There is no evidence of celebrations, and in fact there are hushed reports of national indifference. In this mental maze the marrow of the matter has been grasped by everyone: monarchy is the new anarchy. It is the face of white supremacy, social repression, tyranny, oppression, thought control, big stick control, minority rule, dictatorship, and, on the streets beyond SW1, unfairness. All that can be honestly celebrated on Elizabeth's 90th birthday is the reality that she is the end of the family line. What else could her point be?
Prince, who made something of his life as opposed to having fortune handed to him, is far more 'royal' than Elizabeth 2, and he will be mourned far more than she, for she could never make herself loveable, no matter how many paid and promoted non-stories flood the newspapers of the world. The laughing gulls of Buckingham Palace will never allow you to forget who wields the stick. And, of course, we know very well what gulls tend to do on the people below.
Prince is the royal that people love, whereas Elizabeth 2 was thrust on the people who have never been asked whether or not they want her.

UPDATE Apr. 27:

From terrancestamp:

Much has been said about the Prince and Morrissey's connection. Because of my deep love of Morrissey, I would bore anyone who would listen with my admiration for him. One fateful day in March of 1993 the radio station in Rome Georgia of all places, made an announcement that Prince would be doing an instore at Turtles Rhythm and Views in Atlanta. Because this is right at the time that Prince and Morrissey were supposed to be working together I decided to make the 2 hour trek to wait in line for a glimpse of the man and a possible autograph. Somehow I managed to get in with a copy of my Morrissey fanzine. When it was my turn I approached Prince about Morrissey and ask if they were going to work together. He said and I quote, in his very shy soft voice "Were just thinking about it". He then took a copy of my fanzine and signed my CD. So let the rumor mill be no more. Yes, they were thinking about working together. So they must have had some type of communication. Now only Morrissey can tell the rest of the story. Attached are some photos from that lucky day! Prince went on to do a mini concert for the people who waited in line that day. He did 3 songs from his "Purple Rain" period. Amazing treat from this Superstar to perform for a couple hundred people in a record store. He certainly had my respect from that day forward.

It's clear Morrissey (and Prince) care more about animals than humans.

Prince was publicly and vehemently opposed to gay marriage, in spite of flirting with gay sensuality and sexuality throughout his career. He was a massive hypocrite.

He was a great artist but not an amazing human being.

I just want to see the boy happy!

Can that happen anymore?

I love Uncle Steve, but I think taking the soapox in the guise of a condolence note is not really good form.

Oh, he has nice things to say about "Ponce" now that he's dead? Yeah... f*** Moz and his convenient opinions.

Let's go crazy ! Let's go nuts !
The future London mayor failure has spoken ha ha L O L !

Oh Steven I'm so glad you finally paid tribute to the people's Prince, The country is in mourning and people are gathering on the streets, I really think it would be a good idea if you, Diesel and Lawnmowers return from L A to London and fly the Purple Anarchy flag at half mast from the 5* Pestana. You could also mingle with the Princes mourners or even make a public address on tv.
I do hope you will consider my suggestions your Mojesty, I shall await your response, phone me if one would like to speak. (Also i f you intend to release future TTY statements it might be a good idea to give Morag a nod ).

Surely one has the right to alter ones views after 30+ years?

He criticized Prince a long time ago.
May be he changed his mind. I'm happy he talks like this about Prince because I love both.
And he's totally right about the Queen.

I saw countless references to Prince's veganism - off the top of my head, the BBC and Guardian. This is a shoddy, shoddy attempt to tie multiple news stories together in Morrissey's favour, and it does not work. Rubbish.

This is why I'm glad moz didn't write anything about Bowles death, it would just have given pricks like you a excuse to attack morrissey, using the death of one genius to attack another is shameful, f*** you and you're predictable opinions

But he surely changed his mind, and it is a good thing.
I'm happy about that, I love both.

He said nothing about Bowie's Death but wrote a big text on someone he did not care for years.

How do you know that? Not ALL of his opinions and sentiments and thoughts are public, you know. And perhaps Bowie's death was too personal, too big of a blow? Only he knows, and why the hell should we bother? He doesn't owe you or me or anyone else to flaunt all of his innermost feelings online.

Get over it, all of you. As far as I know Robert Smith or Johnny Marr didn't say a word publicly about Bowie either, and they're just as big fans as Moz.

You in another thread: :D

"I don't think you or anyone else should be telling anyone what to do in the aftermath of someone dying."

I've never heard Morrissey say anything about Prince until this statement. Not a dickie bird. I may be wrong but I can't quite imagine Morrissey of twenty or thirty years ago humming along to Purple Rain. Would he now? I would have thought he would hold most of Prince's output in the contempt he might reserve for the Thompson Twins, Haysi Fantayzee or Jimmy The Hoover.

Suddenly the death of Prince sends him rushing to the quill and parchment to rehash all the old stuff. I asked if Morrissey still writes songs, in part because it contrasts with the some might say far too prolific Prince, but mostly because to all intents and purposes Morrissey has retired. His public face is reduced to frankly infantile TTY statements and dragging his drooping moobs to third rate bands across Lost Angeles.

He didn't go to Asia because he didn't get offers to make it worth his while, and the UK, the US and seemingly even South America are tapped out after years of perma touring in which not a single new song was premiered since the release of the disastrous World Peace.

This theory relies in part on the supposition Morrissey only comments on the deaths of those he cares slightly about, and that he turns on the news, sees someone has pegged out, then, rather than react emotionally and from the heart carefully considers to what extent he will react. Sometimes we get paragraphs, sometimes he can barely be bothered to get to the first full stop. It's almost as if it's about him.

We know he was a Bowie fan. We know they had a falling out. We know Morrissey attempted a reconciliation. We know Bowie rejected any such notion. There's no such thing as coincidence. I don't care if Morrissey wrote about Bowie, and I can guarantee you Bowie wouldn't have. He had too much class.

Great to hear that Prince was a vegan and a PETA campaigner.

Can you strictly be called a vegan if you are on so many prescription drugs you can't survive a journey in a lift?

He always complained about media coverage. It's his thing.

From 1989

Q: Do you like artists because they're underrated ?
If I like them and they're slighted, the only instinct I have is to assemble a placard. Certainly, if people die and their deaths are overlooked, I feel I have to do something about it, I have to speak for them. Even with the recent death of Bette Davis, which I thought was typically slighted by the entire media, as if nobody cared. Here was this absolute, total legend, possibly the very last one, and I have the impression that if Joanna Lumley had died it would have gained more space, which foxes me. I'm generally attracted to people who are mildly despised and Bette Davis was. I bought all the newspapers the day after her death, expecting huge, blinding banner headlines. But it was simply The Bitch Is Dead, on page 15, which I found astonishing. I just assume it's a new generation of journalists who don't really know and don't really care. Perhaps it's too long ago. I think that people do forget. Bette Davis was a very formidable spirit who risked going against audience sympathy to get what she wanted, risked narrowing her audience to convey how she really felt. Which is quite largely how I feel about my career. I'd rather walk away than do anything unnatural. I appreciate that spirit because it's very, very rare - and extremely rare in dear old pop music, if it exists at all.
