TTY: Sir Terry Wogan, RIP

Morrissey has expressed sadness at the death of British broadcaster and DJ Sir Terry Wogan:

Sir Terry Wogan, RIP - true-to-you.net
31 January 2016

Time is not as it was. I only met Terry Wogan once, and he approached me (which makes all the difference), and was as genuine and charming as the entire world, today, is saying that he was. So very witty, yet never hurtful ... razor-sharp yet respectful - and, incredibly, one of the few radio DJs with no qualms about playing the Smiths or Morrissey. I am thankful to him.

Met him once...... Clear jab to Bowie. Morrissey the troll brilliant

Think something has gone awry on Moz's RIP list. Seem to remember a chap dying earlier in the month...ginger hair, wonky teeth, David somebody...pretty sure Moz liked a couple of his tunes?

Honest question: Is this all because of the "Last of the Famous" single sleeve artwork snub?

Because that's all I can think of in terms of Morrissey's radio silence about David's passing. Maybe there's a super sleuth around these parts that keeps up with the news more than me.

Also, as other have pointed out elsewhere, and in relation to Wogan, this happened...

Im amazed at the people who moz have screwed in one way or another patiences. How no one ever seriously kicked his as is beyond me

Yet we're all still here. He is Morrissey and love him or loathe him, you can't ignore him.

He will have people going berserk because he comments on one persons passing but not another.

I'm waiting for the Solo fume to begin.

On one hand I don't think it's really the business of anyone to tell Morrissey (or anyone else for that matter) how to grieve, when to grieve or even how to mark the passing of another human bean. It is possible that the passing of Bowie is simply...too much? That he feels that any remarks made won't do. That he feels that after his "falling out" any comment will look like he is trying to jump on the bandwagon of grief.

The problem with making comments about the passing of some means that people expect you to make a comment on the passing of all.

It's good that Morrissey should pay tribute to Wogan who I have every reason to believe was a gent. However, he is using the man's death to cause a stir with his audience who he knows expected him to at least acknowledge Bowie's passing. Above Ketamine Sun said the mystery continues, but really it does Morrissey no favours, as it makes him look bitter and jealous of Bowie because he knows he won't held in such high esteem when his time comes...

Bowie must not have shared the cocaine is all I can think of. That or Morrissey really is profoundly narcissistic and self-destructive. One or the other.

awful news such a shock lovely guy made me happy and laughing everytime he was on the radio or tv RIP

David Bowie is gone yet we still have to suffer Mozzie's mouth excrements (in general, his statements not the music). If only we could mark the passing of Morrissey. It's way over due.

Will you all give over about Morrissey not sending out a statement about Bowie. Chances are it hit him quite hard and he probably sat by a fire with a bottle of Vodka mourning.

This was a dignified tribute to Wogan, let there be no arguments.

There is no mystery, Morrissey is a bitter man. He tried
for over 20 years to get back in favour wirh David. David wasnt interested.
Morrissey is talented but compared to bowie he's a wash out.
There was a time when Morrissey was considered a legend.not anymore. He is a laughing stock and his ugly nephew is making things worse. Sad state of affairs he was once brilliant.
This not not commenting on Davids death but commenting on Wogans is just another Rick Astley move.
But where as the Rick move was funny, this is sad, desperate and dishonest.

Morrissey can't even thank the person who changed his world as well as giving him the "hhomework on to fire" line.
Yet he thanks Wogan, someone who means nothing to him, who he considered beneath him

When Morrissey dies peopls will be sad, people will hold vigils, it will get in the paper. But it won't be anything like Bowies, he won't even get 10% of the attention, no days named after him etc.

Well there we have it folks ! Concrete proof that the guy is a pure evil bitter selfish 4cker !
Snot nosed junior high ribbing ? Yeh ok Steve.

Absolutely baffled as to why nobody will give him a recording contract !

This is just speculation, really. I reckon he probably hoped Bowie would ring him up one day like nothing had happened. But I doubt he tried very much to make it happen. Can you picture him apologising to Bowie? That would have been the first step.

I wonder if Terry Wogan ever played a Morrissey record.

Apparently he had no qualms about playing a Morrissey record. Or is that figurative?

When the man pops his clogs you won't be seeing words like "warm" or down to earth" as seemed to accompany all of the Bowie pieces with nary a bad thing to say even from the times when, no doubt, he may not have been at his best. You certainly won't see that when Morrissey's time comes. The talent may be there but the man housing it is Shite.
