Sorry if this has been talked about/posted already. I received this little nugget today from a friend, looks very interesting, but the price (£249) scares me away:

Re-issue, Re-package, Re-package!!

Hopefully they will not just turn up the volume and brickwall the songs like on many remasters these days. If the engineer is given freedom to do his job and isn't pressured by the label, these will be sonically amazing.

Not even for $250 American US Dollars. Cannot justify that at all.

The Marr /Arkright mastering is total brickwalled shite on the 2008 set . I expect nothing more than the same from this.

Simply not worth the money. Ridiculously over-priced for a few CD's. We all own every album in this collection, so what's the point? We are not getting anything new here in terms of material. From the internet over the years there is an album worth of rarities, outtakes, different mixes and so on which would far outweigh this stuff. Then there is the Troy Tate sessions, and Oxford Apollo gig, unedited Kilburn 'Rank' gig, you could throw in the early Hacienda shows, Spanish TV specials and gigs, derby assembly rooms, TV interviews and UK appearances. As I said, most serious collectors already have this stuff but it would be nice to have it all put together professionally as a package. We've been asking for years.

This is one of the most sensible anonymous posts I've ever read. Agreed 100%. The extras listed would be fantastic - come on M&M, agree to it!

Dave

you forget 1 thing, royalties, courtcase and a drummer

on thatr's 3 but 1 person gonna benefit that goes against Morrissey ands definately
Marr's wishes too

but indeed, there's lots of good stuff out there to be released

Re: Article: "The Smiths -- Complete" Super Deluxe Collectors Box from Rhino, limited

The last time I ordered a similar box I got home and found a message by Morrissey that urged me not to buy it. The only good thing about it is that I got the singles finally in proper chronology in my head and finally understood what the Smiths were really about, because before it had all just been one big blend of the whole Smiths and Morrissey catalogue in my head, because I had bought compilations and albums without any system behind. Imagine you were unemployed for seven years and then have the chance to get your message out to the world at least as it looks once or twice. What do you do? What is the most pressing topic that you want to sing about?

Those who already own everything, well, the discussion has been going on for years now and yet there have been numerous youngsters who like me of elder age did not own everything yet. The hard copies ARE an essential part to understand what it is all about as well as the background reading. Simple knowledge of language won't do. Even though right from the start I did know that there was something strange about his lyrics and did not think that he'd be singing of himself and people, who call themselves true fans, seriously walk around claiming that they are like this. Read this website and you'll find them. Don't complain, they are right there in the songs.

You missed the important bit, perhaps: re-evaluate the songs? Isn't that the whole point of remastering?
£30 per album is extortionate. Hopefully, it will be possible to buy the *remastered* CDs separately, at a more reasonable price later on. (I care very little about the artwork, to be fair!)

The link doesn't seem to work for me, already pulled off?

I hope so too. I have all the albums but not all the extras.
I can't afford the set as a whole.

They could release them at seperate times like the cure did for their reissues.

I don't think some of you complaining about the price have actually read the details carefully. Yes, it's a little overpriced (isn't everything nowadays), but you get 8 albums on vinyl AND on CD and 25 7" singles, plus DVD and some nice photos. That's easily over £250 quids worth of stuff if you went out and collected it all separately. Not suggesting it's a bargain or anything but you more or less get your money's worth out of it. Naturally it's not what the fans are looking for - I assume most people would really want a box set full of unreleased stuff, and that's going to be a long, long wait.

Look at the bottom under "Also Available" Looks like you can just get the CD's.

Maybe they only made 3,000 of them because they know that they may even have a hard time finding 3,000 people willing to pay for this much for what essentially is the same music presented in three different ways. (Vinyl, CD, Digital.) Someone like me? I cannot remember the last time I put a CD in the player and I could not even tell you where to buy a turn table let alone play vinyl.
