Cilla Black has died at 72; TTY Morrissey statement

Re: Cilla Black has died

Was hoping someone would start a thread. Be interesting to see if Morrissey makes a statement.

When I first saw The Smiths in March 1984, I am certain that the music playing before the band came on was a Cilla album. I recall those around me amused at first but as each new song came on people's enthusiasm waned a little!

"Somethings Gonna Happen Tonight'' was the third single I ever bought.

Cilla Black, RIP

There's no way back to the world you knew. The Smiths covered Cilla's Work Is A Four-letter Word, just as they covered Twinkle's Golden Lights (Twinkle also died this year), just as I covered Lynn Anderson's Rose Garden, and of course, Lynn slipped away last week.
Never stationary throughout the 1960s, Cilla Black made some great records - The Right One Is Left, Suffer Now I Must, It's For You, I've Been Wrong Before, What Good Am I?

I'm very grateful for the songs, and it never occurred to me that such people could die.

Re: Cilla Black has died *edited* now with Morrissey statement

If Morrissey has ever covered your work, now is obviously a very bad time for you.

I posted this over on the condolence thread, but seeing as there's a Smiths link, I'm posting it here too.

i know is not the right time, but i was hoping moz to make some witty remark about Work Is A Four-letter Word and the split of The Smiths :/

A lovely little tribute by moz ... that wont get reported tho . I saw cilla in the isle of wight years ago as a kid and blind date was a saturday must in the late 80s... did the housework today with cilla playing and her choice of songs was quite eclectic

I remember her show in which she mixed comedy sketches with musical acts including Marc Bolan.

A sad loss.
Cilla the singer and later television star Cilla always seemed to polarise opinions, but her back catalogue and talent will never be forgotten.

A very thoughtful and warm statement from Morrissey.

The heart stops but the voice remains, and for some, the songs that saved our lives still carry us through each day.

Very sad news. A year of loss, it seems.

Airline cabin staff will be relieved. She was a famous bitch to them and others.

You're My World, Step Inside Love and Anyone Who Had A Heart were great singles. Her version of the latter is as good as Dionne's and Dusty's.

I named my son after a Cilla Black song. And before you ask, his name isn't "Something Tells Me", it's Alfie.

He's been driving for years. He was interviewed by Len Brown years ago in the 90's and Moz drove them around. Moz drove the car in the 'My love life' video in the 90's. I think he learned after The Smiths broke up. He drove a tractor in Everyday is like Sunday (oops I mean Suedehead!!!) a Vespa scooter in 'the importance of being Morrissey', he owns luxury cars. Most adults can drive, I would think.
