Richard Allen's cult novels "Skinhead" and "Suedehead" reissued by Dean Street Press (June 29, 2015)

From Dean Street Press:

The reboot: reissuing Richard Allen's cult novels SKINHEAD and SUEDEHEAD

I am glad to say that on 29 June Dean Street Press will be reissuing Richard Allen's two cult novels SKINHEAD and SUEDEHEAD in ebook and paperback formats.

I expect these works need little by way of introduction to you, but copies of the books themselves have been out-of-print, hard to find and expensive for a long time, hence our new editions, which also feature new introductions from Andrew Stevens, a long-time Allen devotee.

Praise:

‘I did happen to read the book when it came out and I was quite interested in the whole Richard Allen cult... suedeheads and skinheads and smoothies were very much part of daily life. There was a tremendous air of intensity... something interesting grabbed me about the whole thing.’
Morrissey

‘(Richard Allen’s) work shouldn't require a theoretical summing up, once enough of those to whom it appeals understand its attraction we will have superceded this society.’
Stewart Home

Note: ebook versions are available now at the above links.

I want to read these. I don't know much about Pulp other than some works by Delmore Leonard; does anyone know where I can get these in paperback? Amazon?

I never read the books, but I noticed that Moz recently suggested in an interview that "Suedehead" is not a personal song. But I always thought it was about how he banged & dumped a "suedehead" who couldn't let go. But I guess not then.

neat. never read either though perhaps i shall

You thought suedehead was a personal song? I was even shocked when the interviewer said it was a personal song. I never saw it as that. People always draws parallels to homosexuality/sex to moz lyrics like it is a default setting.

never really thought much about its subject matter as its not one of my fav songs by him

moz wouldnt know what to do with a pretty girl.

Yes he would know what to do since he has handled his fair share of pretty girls. I belive he has dealt With as many girls as boys. But you do know its more intrigin to write about homosexuality. I think he is alot more "open" to women than we belive. We have been brainwashed like sheep, insisting that he has no intrest or knowledge about women since its "common knowledge" that he is gay. Nobody analyzing his song without a pressumed opinion in before had. The fact his most of his "gay" song are not about sexuality/homosexuality at all. There is a fine example here today. Someone belived that the song suedehead was about Morrissey sleeping with suedehead(a suedehead is male a sort is female) but the man said in a recent interview that it was not a personal song. I belive that here is alot more non-personal song in Morrissey repotar that people think.

In conclusion, what do you think of the man than he cowers around women and screams "yuck boobies" the man can and has has both men and women. I don't belive there is a big diffrence between them for Morrissey but it is always more exicting, challenging and "creative" to write about homosexuality an hetrosexuality. Morrissey knows this and uses this to the fullest extent. I wonder why his fans has not get it yet.

I belive sometimes myself that i could never see the man with a women but i'm starting to belive maybe i have been a bit brainwashed of everyone insisting he his "gay" since that what the sings about and so on. I read goodards book, that says alot

Boy George interview in February 2014

"As an older man I understand why some people take a long time to come out. I’m reading the Morrissey book now – I love Morrissey – and I understand why he never came out guns blazing. I think he wanted to avoid defining himself as anything clear-cut. Unfortunately when you come out people define you by what you do in bed. Lots of people get nagged – “Come out, come out” – then when they do the press say, all you ever do is talk about being gay. I keep telling people, being gay is about three hours a week."

Well boy George is fundamentally wrong here. He is assuming Morrissey is fully gay(but does not want come out since it he thinks that people will just think of him as gay) he does not take in consideration that Morrissey is/could be "bisexual" Morrissey has denied being homosexual he used the term Humasexual. Its perfect for him. Huma is a mythological bird that has both male and female natures in them. Huma bird can never rest/settle down, its always flying. It explains Morrissey perfectly. He like/can be in a relationship with both man and woman but he can never settle down/marry someone.

Boy George is just like the rest of the public, unintentionally labeling Morrissey by assuming that he is gay and looking for reason why he has not come out yet. Morrissey has come out: he is humasexual end of the story. The last i will ever speak of this

Yeah, sure. The next thread is already waiting for you to jump in. You are one of the people around here who brings this topic up constantly, and unasked. It's annoying. It really is.

i think the whole stance designed to bring us to the point where we throw up our hands and say who cares as any scenario doesnt diminish anything hes said in the past

eh i have a hard time believing in anything Moz says to be quite honest. I think he just decided to use the term Humasexual because coming out as gay will be restricting for the people who listen to your music and also because it makes him more mysterious. I don't know much about his love life and his only known or at least rumored lovers are male (Jake, Damon and Peter Hogg probably?????) and there was those rampant that he used to have a crush on Johnny Marr. Did he at least have a girlfriend back in the 80's or not?

i don't care anymore what he is. But here is the statics. Johnny: moz never had a crush on but had a strong Bond and closeness which Morrissey and marr both confirmed. Peter hogg: was no lover but described as rent-a-guy he did not stay for so long and was proply a friend. Jake: was a lover of him. Damon: rumored to be a lover but quite likely be a just PA. Tina: ex-lover.
Female crushes/rumored crushes
Anne mcveigh
Miserable lie-girl
Annalisa jablonski
And the girl with there green hair (severed alliance)
There is the statics, can't be arsed anymore. Lets just drop it
