Re: Viv Nicholson Dies

Aww how sad, she died from Dementia as well, a crippling illness.

She was on one of my fave single covers as well

She hit the headlines in the 60s for winning – and quickly spending – the football pools. But Viv Nicholson, who has died aged 79, is better known to Smiths’ fans as one of the band’s strong, working-class, striking female cover stars

She fought against her background of total poverty and practical destitution by spunking away the thick end of £5 million in today's money.

That South Bank Show must be Morrissey's finest hour as an interviewee. He's never less than fascinating throughout.

It is a shame, people like viv, people with a personality is slowly dying out leaving us with the rest

The past is slowly fading away

Her book is a fascinating read, as well if you can find it. Just out of print and out of reach, I borrowed a battered binding I had to request and pay a sum to withdraw from the archive of my local, provincial library.
Her story has been adapted into a piece of musical theatre and lord knows what else, but the book has never again become available.
Shame - her story is tragic and truly British. It should be on the national curriculum. Rest in peace, Viv

I lost my dad last October after a 2 year battle with dementia and other issues. It is very very tough looking at a family member seeing them just as a shell of who they once were.

That's a very.........um........interesting sleeve design for 'What She Said in The Guardian's article.

Does anybody have that sleeve? ;-)

i agree, its extremely hard. never quite goes away that feeling either

she was also on the Headmaster's Ritual released in the Netherlands only

Guardian article says that she blocked her appearance on that cover because of the 'swearing' in the song (she was a Jehovah's Witness by then) - presume the Dutch version is worth some money!

You missed the video played before he came on at the recent shows then?
