Morrissey petitions Just Jeans and Portmans to stop using angora wool ahead of Australia concerts

Re: Morrissey petitions parent company of Just Jeans and Portmans to stop using angora wool

OK, so the 'rage spiral' trolling with scantily-clad models didn't work. It needed a high-profile feminist or lesbian to take the bait and express the required 'outrage'. But Lena Dunham, Jessica Valenti and Julie Bindel must be busy or bored by his antics. So, let's see who's willing to play on this one.

I'll kick the game off with the usual speculative kick'n'run towards goal by raising the issue of what sheep/lambwool Morrissey wears. Does he justify wearing that as a by-product of his Cheesetarianism? Or does he impeccably source orphan lambswool removed under sedation by skilled surgeons?

Let's all work to try and ignite a 'rage spiral' for Team Morrissey on this one. The Daily Mail are doing their bit, even if they've also given a complete 'meh!' to Morrissey's amateurish Lad's Mag video for KMAL. Which is strange, as it was clearly designed for their front page and for The Sun to re-ignite the whole Page 3 issue.

Please help the cause against indifference towards Morrissey's media trolling! Call your MP! Demand we outlaw angora! Etc.

All animal materials used for clothing (leather, skins, down, fur, wool) are unnecessary, disgusting and cause suffering and death. I hope Morrissey avoids them all, as everybody should.

I bet Morrissey is labouring hard to try and find a way of regaining the media uproar the 'sub-species' stuff delivered to his Google search results, without actually repeating the racist drivel of the past. He's probably looking to re-hash PETA quotes like these:

"PETA Asia's investigation into Chinese angora farms has revealed that rabbits have the fur ripped from their bodies as they scream in pain."

"Ninety percent of angora wool comes from China, where there are no penalties for abuse of animals on farms and no standards to regulate the treatment"

Let's hope he can keep a calm head as he grapples with the epicFAIL! of his attempts to troll feminism with scantily-clad models in lingerie. He has to do enough to get the Guardian onboard along with the Daily Mail, but not so much that he has to scarper again:

Morrissey reignites racism row by calling Chinese a 'subspecies'

Remark came in context of an attack on China's animal welfare record, with singer having been criticised on a number of previous occasions for negative race comments

What is wrong with you all? 159 people have looked at this new thread and yet only 2 people have commented in the last 8 hours. Yet loads of fools have been trolling me on the KMAL Video thread. Don't you all care about the bunny rabbits? Here's something to think about as you wait for Morrissey to issue another edict about "No More Gore, No More Angora In Your Stores", or something catchy like that. It's not about Morrissey or publicity for his visit to Australia or getting promoters to give him extra gigs at some nice vineyards like other upmarket Boomer Heritage acts get down under. It's about the rabbits! Not sheep, this time. Rabbits! Get on it! Rise up in a rage spiral if you want to please him! We'll discuss his failure to mention mulesing once I've had my afternoon tea and vegan ginger tiffin. Laters!

He doesn't. He wears wool. But this thread is about rabbits, not the sheepy tweed jacket stuff, though they're linked. I'll get back to this after my tea-break. Gosh! It's hard work being a fully-fledged conscientious Morrissey 'fan'!

Maybe Morrissey could play a gig in Hong Kong....it would be a way of 'healing' his relationship with Chinese consumers as well as getting to protest the source of the supply alongside the demand. He *might* want to use this image as a stage back-drop just to show everyone he no longer thinks Chinese people are a 'sub-species' and he's sorry for his racist outburst about them.

Really, really disappointed at the continuing lack of response to this thead. It's like when you all turn your heads during 'Meat Is Murder' to update your Facebook pages. Doesn't ANYBODY HERE CARE ABOUT THE RABBITS!

Morrissey petitions parent company of Just Jeans and Portmans to stop using angora wool - Daily Mail Online

Excerpt:

Just weeks after he controversially banned meat products from being sold at the Sydney Opera House during his upcoming shows there, Morrissey has once again weighed into Australian animal rights issues.

The singer, who will be performing four sold-out shows as part of the Sydney Vivid Live festival in May, has written a public letter to The Just Group imploring them to cease their use of angora wool.

The Australian retail giant, who own Just Jeans, Portmans, Dotti, Peter Alexander, Jacqui E, and Jay Jays, have so far refused to back down on their stance in using the controversial fur.

PETA Australia has been petitioning The Just Group to reconsider their position after successfully getting other retailers, including David Jones, Myer, Sportsgirl, General Pants Co, and Jeanswest, to stop selling angora.

'I'm looking forward to my concerts at the Sydney Opera House in May, but I was extremely dismayed to learn from my friends at PETA Australia that The Just Group refuse to modernise and drop angora wool from their clothing lines', Morrissey writes.

'By selling angora wool, you're sending the message to millions of shoppers that your company condone the barbaric abuse and slaughter of rabbits and are willing to perpetuate it.'

The singer, 55, added that he would post petitions for concertgoers to sign at information booths throughout the Opera House if the company did not reverse their decision.

Globally, major fashion chains including Zara, H&M, Marks & Spencer, and Gap have all pledged to not use the fur in recent years after PETA outed the heartbreaking conditions of angora rabbits.

The organisation revealed the treatment of rabbits on angora farms in China, where workers rip the fur from live rabbits' skin.

The Just Group are yet to respond to Daily Mail Australia's request for comment, however a spokesperson has previously responded to PETA with the statement: 'Although we are not able to join the pledge sought, I want to thank you for your interest in our group.'

Morrissey is very right to bring this issue up and try and get it in the public eye. The use of 'Angora" somehow seems to disassociate the material from the source just as pig is described as pork, cow as beef, sheep as lamb. Some months back a friend was very pleased with his new purchase from a Belgian Christmas market: a hat with a 'furry' bobble on it. He said it wasn't actual fur - "can't be" he said. On closer inspection turns out it was - possibly rabbit. People are so ignorant.

The fashion industry often lies about the fur in their products. It'll say "synthetic" on the label, but most of the time, it's dog or rabbit fur. They can be fined for that sort of thing. I don't think people are aware because I don't think people talk about it enough. It's safer to just steer clear of all furry accents so you don't end up discovering you're wearing Fido.

save the rabbit, but throw feminism and equality of women under the bus.

Has anyone seen the tty post on michel eavis just now. I agree with Morrissey, but with the KMAL video and these non stop ranting, i can safely say i have never missed 80s-90s Morrissey in my life. His Love for animal and animal rights seemed more sincere then

You are joking, right? First of all I think, for Moz, it is actually a very level-headed and thought out post. And I said it elsewhere on here: he may not be a perfect human being but it cannot be argued that, regarding animal rights, today he is stricter than in his younger years.

It really depends on how the angora is harvested to decide what to think about it.

I met someone who spins her own angora.

The bunnies are are free range.. their hair is tugged off by and and the bunnies really like it. They sit there on her lap as she thins them out by simply pulling out some of their fur... then she spins the fur into yarn right in front of you.

So, while it is very likely that the store in question is not getting it's angora in this way one should not simply contend that all angora is bad.

That's wonderful, too, bored. I'm pretty sure he's targeting the big companies that buy from the rabbit farms...where it's not humane...where it's terrible.

Yes but since people cannot be everywhere to control in which way all angora is produced we should stop producing it at all to be sure there is no suffering for the animal. After all we won't freeze to death tomorrow if we stop using it. There is enough material for clothes production.

We've seen it so, so many tmes before a tour. Name in papers, drum up a stink, sell tickets. Also the statement out of nowhere about Glastonbury comes hot on the heels of him getting a roasting about that video. It's playing the game, that's all it is.
