Dave posted "for the first time at the Hacienda", he didn't say it was Smiths' first gig.
On 4th February 1983 Smiths played Hacienda for the first time (yes, it's their third gig).

Smiths played at Hacienda only twice, the second gig was in July 1983.

I never said it was the Smiths' first gig either. The poster above me asked whether Hacienda was their second gig, to which I responded.

THANK YOU FOR CONFIRMING THOUGH KEWPIE I GENUINELY APPRECIATE IT

They also played there in November 1983 (the same day they recorded This Charming Man for Top of the Pops)

Tweet from Dave Haslam (@Mr_Dave_Haslam):

I'm surprised Kurtis Blow was doing anything in England at that time. I guess it's hard for me to think a bunch of Brits excited to hear "Basketball".

China Crisis.. that's a name a I haven't heard in a LOOONG time.

Pretty interesting calendar for the venue.

Maybe that's why they added the "tough man of New York Rap" under Kurtis Blow's name? :)
