Syrup: "Syrup of figs" = Wig.

(An occasional series of British translations provided for the delectation of noted Anglophile AztecCamera.)

I was able to download the article. I don't speak or read Serbian, but will post it here shortly unless someone else beats me to it.

Also, in case anyone is worried (or not)...I was told by a FB friend who is a native Serbo-Croatian speaker that there's no health mentions of any kind in the article.

I try not to be a hater but isn't it kind of sad that we're reduced to getting excited about really short interviews in foreign magazines (or worse- hotel adverts) that report nothing new and reuse old photos? I mean when you look back on the heady days of NME spreads and frequent mentions in Spin and Rolling Stone etc. it's just kind of a bummer. Everyone peaks- I get that- but this all seems desperate.

The annoying thing is that Moz could take the cover of NME, Q, Mojo and the headline on Pitchfork if he wanted to. He's just gotta get his finger out a bit.

musical print media is in serious decline but his success without any of it on this tour says to me that he doesnt really need it. might be nice for us but i dont think he needs it

He must hate the way he looks because we got 2 new photos last year and one tv appearance. Sucks.

I want to know what happened. Even in 2013 we had tv appearances. I really hope he doesn't turn into Bowie and disappear.

i think hell tour as long as hes able to but he could disappear from the media. hes never much been that fond of it anyway has he

actually, THIS is pretty serious interview! but short.

what stops journalists from established music magazines to do an interview? i'm sure they know how to contact morrissey...

p.s. i'm native serbian speaker

His autobiography was awaited in mileage and emotions, longer and deeper than the English Channel. It is sorted as editor’s classics, next to Churchill’s. Millions seeked scanner in first person from one of the most controversial characters of modern era. Besides, for his 30 years of career we got crucial songs putting him aline with immortals: Jagger, Presley, Lennon….. Songs on which are raised as the British Prime minister so as the Serbian journalists. Everything is easy to achieve except chance to speak with Mozz. But Branko Rosic i Marko Prelevic, like Morrissey and Marr in ancient times, managed to get his opinion on the current situation in the world, European Union, Jamie Oliver, modern music, nationalism, anarchy... in the light of his first appearance in Belgrade, for the concert on 10th of December at Belexpo centar.

In every job, so in journalism, there are standard moments. Long or short ones. Periods between exclusive spots. These spots – gigantic catches - and its protagonists aint much. When it was announced that Steven Patrick Morrissey - one of the most influential persons of pop culture, singer, frontman of cult band The Smiths - suddenly added Belgrade on calendar of his tour, firstly we wished to book our tickets because of the threatening stampedo at ticket sales venues throughout Serbia. And then in second e-mail to agency Avalon - we started our daydreaming - we came out with request for an interview with Morrissey. Interviews with key movie or music personas are real rarity in Serbian newspapers although those stars quite often wear down their stellar soles on domestic stadiums, halls, movie theatres... And to get an interview from Morrissey carries one tough circumstance, his personality, unpredictability, a fact that he’s not typical rockstar. You’ll not find profane market behavior in this owner of “Irish blood and English heart”. He’ll refuse to guest with British Prime minister Cameron in BBC show, in a world where rock stars are 'hammering' in White House and Vatican chambers, like B. Vox. Singing at inaugurations of American president or make their calendar of humanitarian activities, together with the Popes.

Morrissey doesn’t do so. He’ll refuse to share a BBC couch with British Prime minister and ban the previous mentioned even to say in his campaigns that he used to listen to The Smiths more than his party forerunner, Margaret Thatcher. In the time of monarchist euphoria caused by wedding of prince William and Kate Middleton he’ll hit insults towards Buckingham Palace, adding that Prince Harry 'has always been an absolute idiot’ - this was continuation of his traditional anti-royal edition from the “The Queen Is Dead”, relic Smiths’s album. And he'll be elusive despite his consistency. He’ll support labourists, before Blair (“Red Wedge”), but will dissociate himself later, enjoying in independence. Hell be proclaimed as British nationalist because he singed wrapped in Union Jack flag in front of a picture of two skinhead girls. One thing was troublesome, too - wearing Millwall shirt - of the football club whose fans are known as ultra right-wingers. He’ll be disgusted with American franchises desecrating British architecture and will come out with negative comment on the smell of Pakistanis. And, when they wanted (after his early 'left-winging') to label him as British nationalist he’ll attack English euphoria over the Olympic Games in 2012, comparing it with the spirit of Germany in 1939. With anti-Bush statements he'll incite FBI agents.

Come out with negative comments about the smell of Pakistanis?

I'm aware some Serbians have a bit of a reputation but didn't realise Google Translate wilfully projects racial slurs.
