Morrissey statement on Cat & Fiddle closing

Post from Morrissey on True To You:

The earth dies screaming - true-to-you.net

23 October 2014

A large part of me dies at news that the pillowy bosom of the Cat And Fiddle is to close down on December 15th, making the universe all wrong. A beacon of light will soon be a headstone, and where will we now go to chew each other's fat? Yes, life is fragile and we all end up as worm chow, but the Cat And Fiddle is one of the Great Drinkers of The 20th Century, and is as stable and rooted a part of the Strip as number 77. We are all orphaned.

I love the place, too. Many great afternoons and evenings.

The place serves up lots of meat-based dished: Bangers and Mash, Shepard's Pie, Bacon-wrapped beef filet (my personal favorite)... the menu goes on.

My guess is that he gives slack to venues he likes (the Cat & Fiddle, Il Tiaso) and venues he loathes (Coachella, Staples Center, and the other halls he forbids the sale of meat).

He wouldn't be our Morrissey if he wasn't 100 percent contradictory.

What melodramatic nonsense. It's just a bar. It's not *even* a culturally significant one, like The Marquee, or the Hacienda, or CBGB's.

I never visited the place myself (out of my way.) Of course, I would have went out of my way to hang with the Moz, but he didn't tell me what time he'd be there. :p

What a crock!

Not drinkers are you? Never had a favourite watering hole? For me trips to Manchester would never be the same if they closed Sams Chop House.

When was the last time Moz came here and chewed the fat with anyone apart from sat in the corner with Jesse rating the Belgian ales? If he was so bothered he'd run a petition and inject some money into the place to keep it alive.
