'Duet with Morrissey? No thanks, he can't sing', claims singer-songwriter Risa Hall - Mancunian Matters
by Olivia Buckley

Manchester icon Morrissey doesn't have a stitch on the so-good-it's-'crazy' Gallagher brothers, according to singer-songwriter Risa Hall.

Excerpt:

Self-proclaimed 'adopted Mancunian' Risa admits not all of the city's musical exports quite live up to her standards, and would choose to collaborate with the 'unique' Oasis brothers over former-Smith's frontman Morrissey.

Originally from New York, Risa, who moved to the city in the same year The Smiths formed, admits to being less than impressed by the vocal talents of one of Manchester's most iconic, if not miserable, musicians.

Risa said: “If I could collaborate with any Manchester artist it would be the Gallaghers, it has to be the Gallaghers right? They have such unique voices and their songs are just such good songs, like they manage to get so much into just three minutes of a song it’s crazy.

“It definitely wouldn’t be Morrissey, I’m gonna get killed now [laughs] but yes seriously, his lyrics are really good but his voice isn’t up there and I’m all about the vocals.”

Luckily for her, Morrissey wasn't free for a collaboration...

As if Morrissey or pretty much anyone else has ever heard of her. She should be trolling these boards. Still wouldn't make her famous though.

Listened to a couple songs of hers on spotify. Hacky uninspired songwriting and she sounds like she belongs in an average bar band.

If she thinks the Gallaghers are more "up there" vocally than Morrissey, then yes, she is deaf.

Yes Liam's Beady Eye live vocals are atrocious.

He can't sing in these days where everything has to be pitch perfect.

He's still the best singer alive at conveying emotion though and that's what it's really all about.

I would say who is she and she must be tone-deaf if she thinks liam or noel can sing better than morrissey, oh but wait, that's what everyone else said. morrissey's singing live improved vastly as he got older. i wonder if he used his 90s hiatus to take singing lessons? he sings pretty perfectly now live

Everyone is entitled to their opinion in a democracy. From a technical perspective neither Morrissey (sorry folks) nor either of the Gallagher's is a good or even adequate singer. For anyone interested in singing check out the movie"50 Feet from Stardom" then honestly compare the vocal talents of your heroes/heroines.

No need to apologise. Very few are going to take you seriously.

50 Feet From Stardom is a great film with some great singers but being able to sing isn't just about being able to hold a note and sing in key. Plenty of the people featured in the film said the same thing. From the film Darlene Love was a fantastic singer as was Merry Clayton, most of the others talents were just more suited to backing vocals though.

The sister of the woman who walks next doors dog disagrees with this.

Who the f*** is this woman anyway? I'm a Mancunian, and believe me, she really doesn't matter. I've just researched her, and she lives round the corner from me. I've still, never heard of her.

What? His voice is beautiful. Liam Gallagher sounds like a dying cat.
