Seasick Yet Still Docked: A Smiths & Morrissey Boat Cruise (Aug. 15, circling NYC)

I'm a bit jealous. There are definite disadvantages living in a country where you never bump into a Morrissey fan let alone get the opportunity to drink on the water with them.

If it's any consolation, I can count on one hand (without using all the fingers) the number of times I've bumped into/encountered/otherwise met Morrissey fans in my whole life. They're there at the concerts, apparently, but like I said in another thread, I'm always kind of amazed that I'm not the only person there.

I have way too much social anxiety to talk to people in groups of strangers, anyway, so I'll just be on the boat drinking a ginger ale watching everyone else have fun. If I can drag my husband along, we'll both do that together.

yeah I think we'd all have those fingers left over. It's just Morrissey never plays here so it feels more remote I guess is what I am getting at. Drag him along for sure. A safety net is a good thing to have. Social anxiety can sneak up on the best of us.

Sounds like fun! I may consider going. The weather is predicted to be perfect, too.

I'm pretty excited about this. I haven't been on a cruise around Manhattan since I was a kid, and never at night! Looking forward to it.

I hope you and yours have fun. It seems like it would be the perfect Smiths/Moz "Sleepless in Seattle" moment. I hope someone falls in love, and someone's beaten up, and the senses being dulled (clearly) are mine.

Just a quick note that Doug Gillard (Nada Surf, Guided By Voices, Cobra Verde) is going to drop in for a couple songs on guitar. Very exciting. Just a few tickets left and perfect weather forecasted. See you all soon. :guitar: Ravi Marr

How was it?

The show was enjoyable enough, but unfortunately it was on the lower level of the boat, so it was a bit like not being on a boat at all—stifling and stuffy, closed windows, etc., with the nasty stench of chicken wings and meat pies in the air from the catering service. At one point, the singer decided to make a comment about Morrissey having "a bad week" and it becoming "increasingly difficult to be a Morrissey fan," which was incredibly off-putting given that he was actually on stage impersonating the guy when he said it! Totally unnecessary, and it really put a damper on the rest of the evening. If they do a boat show again, I'd at least hope that it's in the open air so the cruise/water/view aspect of the event could actually be experienced and enjoyed.
