Jonathan Ross tweets about cheering Morrissey up

Re: Wossy "cheers Morrissey up" ??

Moz was recently moaning on TTY about not getting any offers to do TV, so I reckon we can put 2 and 2 together here.

If it means Moz will be on his show then this is the best news in ages.
It'll be so great to see/hear him again.
Unfortunately, no one watches the show since Wossy left the BBC, but it will still be good coverage for the album...

Yes it sounds like he invited him on.

Jonathan Ross tweeted the following earlier today:

OK, so, I don't like to brag, but I think I managed to cheer Morrissey up a little today. I will sleep well tonight.

I wonder if he had him round for tea again or just chatted ? ;)

Oh man, would love a TV appearance. Fingers crossed (seems to be a regular thing in Moz land)

I don't blame Moz for feeling a bit deflated. He released a fantastic album (a 'monster' as he put it himself) and the radio stations are too dumb to play it, and there was no fanfare. He should have been on some TV shows but they were too dim witted to invite him. It really is a disgrace. His best album in years and probably only the die hards will know. That's no way to add to your audience.
And on the other hand you see mediocre shit or absolute offal making it onto the airwaves and having success even though the music is vile and the lead singers have the charisma of a dead donkey abandoned on the top of Croagh Patrick. The world is a strange place populated by boring sheep-people whose only desire is to be led through life by people thicker than themselves. Ah well, at least I have the 'World Peace' deluxe CD to cheer me up, and the prospect of a Moz concert in Ireland later in the year.

I have pretty much listened to it on average 2x a day since it first "leaked" and that was over a month ago. I'd go as far as saying it's fantastic and I completely agree with what you wrote above.

Curious if it is a TV performance, what song he'd do.

Morrissey stated that he received a grand total of zero offers to appear on television which naturally he wouldn't be delighted about. Not to say he's specifically down in the dumps, just that one offer is more cause for cheer than none at all.

Yup! Now...let's discuss what song(s) he'd do! :)

It's kind of unfortunate. In one way you can understand T.V. and radio snubbing a 55 year old artist who has been known to ruffle feathers and cancel tours. After all the hits are bought and Morrissey can't really expect to be catapulted into the pop charts at this stage. But the sad thing is he has been snubbed his whole career. In the 90s he should have been a superstar -- he knows it, anyone with taste knows it but certain people were determined to be rid of him and it didn't happen.

I'm still shocked that he didn't become a massive star in the early/mid '90s as it really felt for a (very) short time that it was going to happen. I tend to blame the shifting taste in the US around that time away from "college" rock toward grunge and Pearl Jam and all of that kind of stuff. A lot of bands that seemed poised for mainstream breakthroughs (I'd also include the Banshees in that group, right on the heels of Superstition) just sort of fell away from the collective consciousness of the general MTV audience almost as soon as they'd made their appearances. I felt like everything I was interested in musically was getting snubbed once Nirvana et al walked on the scene, not just Morrissey.

But that's neither here nor there at this point! I can't see what any TV show would have to lose by booking Moz (unless there's another Duck Dynasty-esque situation, but even then the story did get Kimmel and the episode a load of press), so let's hope it happens! I'd love to see him back on Saturday Night Live, personally. It's been a very long time.

No lie, but I was driving home with the windows down and "Istanbul" blaring from the speakers of my car and it hit me that the album really does kick ass. I've listened to it all the way through now about 6 times...maybe?...and it suddenly hit me just now on Blair Mill Road. My son in the backseat agreed when I spontaneously blurted out, "Yo...this album is REALLY good...like...it really is great."

Then, we got home and I saw this thread.

So...my day is going swimmingly at this point...and this is all coming from a perpetually miserable gal. I may even smile today. Keep the good news coming, eh?

he wont do staircase. i dont think it works for a tv performance as its to wordy and convoluted musically to gain fans with a first time one time listen. only the first phrase is really catchy (does it have a chorus). i think hell do istanbul and probably world peace though i think he should sing kiss me a lot for the tv performances just to show sincere joy and maybe counter some of the doom gloom sad rep he has.
