"I'm Not A Man" in New York magazine's Approval Matrix

I get NY Mag & I saw it & laughed. I love that column but the print is so small that you need to squint.

sweet. on another note do the right thing is 25 yo. wow

Indeed it is! I went to a screening & talk with Spike Lee and the cast a couple of weeks ago at BAM, and it was amazing to see it on the big screen again for the first time since it was released. NY mag may call it a "pre-gentrification artifact," but it's still very, very relevant…

It's my favorite part of NY mag, but I always miss it now since I let my print subscription lapse! I achieved a personal goal of making it into the Approval Matrix a couple of years ago (same quadrant as Moz!), so I basically have nothing left to do with my life anymore.

jealous you got to see it on the big screen and talk to spike lee. very jealous but happy for you. you guys seem to do much cooler stuff than i. i watched rockford files all day (i was lazy) and read american psycho. im re reading all my ellis books at the moment. that show had so many fantastic guest stars it ridiculous to think about.

Nah, I didn't get to talk to him! I just went to a moderated talk that he and the cast gave after the screening. Just me and 800 other people, haha. I'm lucky to live in a city where it's easy to do a lot of fun stuff for not much money.

I'm a big BEE fan, too. Every few years I re-read everything (except Imperial Bedrooms—once was enough!).

agreed. the only book of his ive actually had to put down (any book really and i watch read some disgusting disturbing stuff). i kinda have to force myself through psycho. its my least fav. cool about spike lee. i guess i just assumed it was a question answer kind of thing. baltimores not bad for entertainment but baltimore does its own unique thing, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse.

The Approval Matrix: Week of July 14, 2014 - New York Magazine

Morrissey's use of Beefaroni made it to the "lowbrow/brilliant" quadrant of New York magazine's Approval Matrix last week. Excellent, hahaha.

Oh, you are going to be SO disappointed! It's nothing exciting. During Hurricane Sandy I was living in one of the flood zones in Brooklyn, and I took photos from my roof the whole time (until we were evacuated, that is). One that I had taken of the carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park flooding wound up all over CNN and in the New York Times, and NY mag put it in the Matrix the next week. The end!

no way am i disappointed. i love to see cool stuff happen to real, those with no public image, people. rachel does a bunch of amateur photography and i recently took a bunch of photos of baltimores station north distract murals not long ago. heres a link to where i posted them on a forum i used to be on. check them out if you like amateur photography at all. feel free to show some of yours as well but please be forgiving as im not a photographer. joking, im not that sensitive. i remember when annapolis got flooded and we took some good pics of that as well.

That’s really neat. Sucks to hear about your old place though. Sandy was horrible :(

Very cool, thanks for sharing the link! I love seeing cities through collected single subjects like that. I take a lot of photos of old signage in NYC, and one of these days I'll round 'em all up. I've never been to Baltimore, but it's on my list. I'll keep an eye out for John Waters!

We were lucky in that part of Brooklyn (DUMBO)—everything got flooded out, but no one was hurt and recovery was swift. Fortunately my apartment was on the 9th floor, so I didn't lose any personal property. We were able to move back in after a week. A lot of people in other parts of the city weren't so lucky.

I'm not a particularly good photographer, but you can see all of my Sandy photos here (in reverse chronological order):

And of course Ye Olde Instagram:

I saw those pics. That's the Idora Park carousel, originally from my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.

neato fred. i live in the center of the city so to speak in the arts district of station north. the photos are of my neighborhood and if you wanna hang out for a min with a super hardcore descendents/all moz fan let me know as ill be around. understand if youre busy with your family of course but enjoy the city as its old and unique. youre welcome to come over to our place as well and have a meal drink or whatever. were very public people so its not hard to check up on us to feel safe if youre uncertain or whatever. rachel also works at hopkins peds research and has a very public presence there if that lends any cred. heres rachels instagram account if you wanna check out our homelife etc to see how normal we might be.

hey chickpea im about to get into the tub but ill check out the photos later tonight while finishing rockford season four and maybe see what your public image is all about though im sure its lovely. thanks for posting the link. cheers (i dont know why i say this. i guess its just rubbed off on me now).

Lovely picture—nice to see you're dog lovers, too. (And I was just kidding about my public image. I'm just another social hermit with a blog!)

Enjoy James Garner + bathing!

Totally understand Fried man, have a good time. As for record stores I don't remember there names but the one next to gorilla comics in fells point is awesome as is the hole in the wall one in Hamden that actually doesn't have name. There's another in fells thats just an iron door and also has no name that I know of next to the cross street market and that's the one to go to as it's kind of secret. they don't advertise. You have to go through the door and through a weird walkway but that's the one to go to as it's got rarer stuff. I got an original copy of the severed alliance there once. Also for a very cool record store that sells tons of vinyl try out soundgarden as it's like a record store from a movie. They're all really close to one another except for the hole in the wall in Hamden. I guess atomic books also has a decent vinyl collection.

And yes we have two black pugs and two cats plus Rachel's mom has two frenchies two pugs and a English. It's a little dog party whenever we all get together as her brother also has an English and a frenchie.
