..seemingly straddle the line between messiah and misanthrope is still his greatest gift..

I like that line from the Creative Loafing review.

There is such a depiarity between most of these reviewers. Either you like Morrissey's music or you don't. For example, there has never been a rap song I like, therefore I could never objectively review one. Most likely most of these reviewers enjoy different music, so their opinion is worthless. I don't care for the same reviewer who says how great Britney Spears album is sharing his thoughts on Morrissey.

As a fan for 30 years I am glad that Morrissey has given me three decades of music. Some albums have a few gems while others have more. Regardless, I'm just glad that he continues to put out music. I will be putting at least six songs from this album on my regular rotation of songs I listen to. Every time he releases a new album I still feel like the teenager at the record store buying "Meat is Murder." I am really enjoying this album and like that he went outside his comfort zone. In my opinion I hope he continues to put out music.

Lastly, I don't understand any criticism of his music on this site. Like I mentioned earlier I don't enjoy rap music, therefore why would I waste my time posting on a rap music forum on how I hate rap music. If you don't enjoy his music, then don't buy his material! I get it, it's not for everybody. I just don't understand the effort put into the criticism.

Maybe you should take those black and white blinkers off and consider that one can love the work of an artist but not all of it, and the desire to see the artist achieve levels of past greatness, inevitably leads to disappointment now and again, and that forums such as these offer places for discussion of said feelings.

There's a palpable bitterness to the way some of them persistently hawk their disdain for the album in increasingly idiotic and irrational terms.
One can only speculate as to their motivation, but I suspect jealousy coupled with the fact they're aging badly and unproductively. I suggest anyone in this position take up a good hobby. I hear knitting is quite the thing...

Not sure what a "black and white blinker" are.

I don't think Morrissey puts out material because he wants to fulfill your desire to see him achieve levels of past greatness. He not that young kid full of loneliness and despair that inspired him to write "I know it's over." He is a mature man with different aspirations and thoughts. He puts out material, and you voice your opinion with your pocket book. But to go to a forum and complain about how his last good album was "Vauxhall" is straight up lame. Why would anyone waste their time following his music if they haven't liked any of his material in almost 20 years.

If you never enjoyed his music or stopped enjoying it a long time ago or just don't like it now, I get it. I just don't get going out of your way to go to a forum of an artist you don't like to post that you don't like him.

His last great album was not Vauxhall, it was Years Of Refusal. I didn't believe this until very recently, having ignored the album mostly. Upon relistening, however, I now think it's actually a damn fine piece of work - fantastic singing, crunchy, dynamic songs, lyrics that are mopey but also tongue in cheek enough to pull it off, some truly moving songs, a real sense of thematic coherence (an attempt to stand tall in the face of depression, ageing, love, the lack of it, & death).

World Peace, by contrast, is sloppy as anything, a grab bag of childish half-arsedness. You mention him not being the kid who wrote 'I Know It's Over' anymore - no, of course he isn't, but that's not the point. The point, ironically, is that that song comes across as work of staggering maturity compared to the embarrassingly juvenile shite that is 'Kick The Bride Down The Aisle'. Give or take a couple of attempts at sophistication ('Mountjoy', 'Istanbul'), the whole album is riddled with a sense of a man who has quite simply thrown his muse to the dogs. Perhaps that explains the cover.

Where are the bright, propulsive rhythms that made "That's How People Grow Up" feel so urgent?

- Stephen Carlick. 5/10

You just know there's something very wrong with this review when he's quoting one of the worst Morrissey singles of all time as great. I can listen to it but I'm glad when it's over. It's the only weak song on YOR.

I'm sure Morrissey would agree with you. He doesn't tolerate dissenting opinion either.

It had a decent tune and a decent lyric. Perhaps it was one of the few recent Morrissey songs he could remember which managed both simultaneously.

I dig that song :)

The only weakest point in YOR are the vocals, Morrissey's voice never sounds so bad. Is good to see that almost every review is positive, I listen WPINOYB everynight and I think is a solid, different and fresh album.

You still don't get it. Art is subjective. I love the new album and disagree with your description of the album. However, I completely understand that you and others may not like it. Like I said early, Morrissey is not for everybody. Again, I just don't understand the need to post how much you dislike the album.

Also, why so much focus on the cover? The only person who needs to be happy with the cover is Morrissey. It's his product that he put together and is putting it out to the world. Good or bad, it's him. If you don't like it don't buy it.

Ok, I won't.

I have it. I just haven't paid for it.

Why do you keep calling me a hag, by the way? Isn't that a derogatory term for a woman?

agree about thats how people grow up being the weakest song on that album and i always only just let it play. a third of the time i just skip it altogether. production sounds weird to me as well compared to the rest of the album. always feel like i have to turn it up or something but perhaps thats a mastering issue. hard to say
